Epitaph Records -- Millencolin

Following the last record Stallone and Brian's scattered tizzy in the review, Daggermouth is still making music. For those of you new, Daggermouth is a pop-hardcore punk band playing at a skatepunk speed with a little attitude and some skills to back it all up.

Anyways, this record reminds me -- lyrically -- of Dead to Me; it comes off honest and not really poetic, but in a good way. You don't need to spend hours analyzing lyrics to get some probable meaning to a song, the band simply lays it all out for you. "Nelson Jump on the Garbage" is an impressive song that features a few interesting lines that makes me think they know what people talk about on Punknews half the time. This record does in fact deliver hard-hitting songs that make me look at the band as a contender in the boxing match of bands close to their style. Lyrically around the record you'll find what you would expect from Daggermouth but a bit better.

This record has a few very short songs that in no way ruin the record; in fact they're welcomed for the fast and to-the-point lyrics, yet still managing to be catchy. As for the rest of the record, it's pretty catchy too, with lots of backup vocals and fast, hard-hitting songs; I don't know if people can really complain about it. The record in all honesty seems like the band matured a bit from their last, improving on all aspects and still remaining Daggermouth.

Now for the reason of an 7, I would give it a 7.5 but I can't, so bear with me. When it's all said and done I feel like they can do better, like they aren't only as good or a little better as the "other bands." I think they have talents that aren't quite being shown on the record, talents to make very memorable songs that make people chant all over "the scene." I don't think it's something to worry about; in time they'll defiantly get it, it'll just take some work to find where they fit into the puzzle.

All in all, Turf Wars delivers some great songs and great lyrics by a band that is on the road to something good.

    My Score:

I like this one more than Stallone. Stallone just felt like a random collection of songs and it was perhaps too long...i just felt kinda bored through the middle.
This though, hits you hard from the start and for all 22min of the album it keeps pacing well. Catchy fast songs. Only complaint its maybe a bit too short.

I agree with the score. Good record, but I will probably always like Stallone better.

I just read the comparisons to Set Your Goals and have to say the songs I have heard thrash that band.

I need to hear some more songs by this band, but the ones I have heard are excellent.

I dont know where the Set Your Goal comparisons are made. Sure both bands are poppy, but so are a ton of other bands. The songs on this record are way faster than SYG's and the record is way shorter. It actually reminds me of a poppier Kid Dynamite!

I had no idea this was out already.

decent enough record, only complaint is that it seems to be trying to be mutiny by set your goals but just falls short of that mark

I'm liking everything but the vocals. If the singer gets a little better this band could be big imo.

how about, instead of using the term "pop-hardcore-punk", just cut out the first two. Not every band has to be labeled hardcore.

Descriptive words help readers, and make reviewers look good.

I knew this band was going somewhere

I like this way better than Stallone, the songs stick in your head much better and this doesn´t get boring, listened to this over and over, fun record!

    My Score:

I only had one chance to listen to it, and it definitely didn't grab me like Stallone did the first time I heard it. Still, it sounded pretty good.
