I’m willing to forgive most of the shortcomings pop-rock bands bring to the table. I don’t expect much creativity, I don’t expect earth-shattering lyrical revelations, and I don’t expect instrumental mastery. What I do expect is catchy and succinct music with lots of replay value, and for reasons to be named shortly, Plain White T’s have never made that grade.
You were everything I wanted, you were everything a girl could be / You left me broken hearted, now you don’t mean a thing to me.Blink-182 caught a lot of flack during their tenure as a band for sophomoric lyrics, but if there’s ever been words taken straight off a Sharpie-covered middle school locker, it’s those. I don’t want to feel dumber just by hearing lyrics, but that’s a foregone conclusion with the all the trite thoughts this band has penned. When people listen to bands like PWT’s, they want to be able to sing along, they want to have some sort of connection to the lyrics, however minor they may be, and it’s hard to imagine that happening anywhere on Every Second Counts. In their favor is the fact that they were able to write some definitively catchy hooks, and it’s shown right out of the gate with “Our Time Now,” a mid-tempo track with extremely simple chord progressions and an infectious chorus. It’s the way anyone who likes pop-rock wants songs to be constructed -- easy to follow and easier to enjoy. There’s not much to invest in a song you’ve likely heard before played slightly differently by another band entirely. They also fire off some real missteps, thoughl; “Making a Memory” is that down-trodden, ‘introspective’ effort that’s as token as it is disjointed. The punchy chorus is accompanied by some weak instrumentation that doesn’t fit at all, and as if you had to ask, the lyrics are equally as disappointing. Even in a genre as welcoming to break through in as pop-rock, there’s pitfalls to avoid, and Plain White T’s step right into all of them. Well I guess this is growing up. If i hear the Delilah song one more time im going to start crushing skulls. These fuck knuckles just ruined my friday. PWT = Nickelback with eating disorders score is for the don imus comment. This album is just terrible. Hey There Delilah is the most god awful song ever passed off as pop-punk. I would probably rather listen to Coldplay. Or even Hinder. No, not Hinder... I take that one back. the only thing good about this album is the blink 182 quote at the end of this review Score is for nappy headed hos why isn't there more shit talking goin on in here? more like the plain white FAGS! hahahha....aaaaahhhh....uhhhhh. hello? I downloaded "Take Me Away" and played it maybe 70 times in 2 days while working on a paper maybe 18 months ago. "there is a darkie in this band?" there is a darkie in this band? I saw they added "Hey There Delilah" on This album too. So that's a total of 2 albums and 1 ep... I slang in my white tee i bang in my white tee I saw they added "Hey There Delilah" on This album too. So that's a total of 2 albums and 1 ep... perfect review. I actually really enjoyed their previous effort "all that we needed" quite a bit, but this album, they seemed to dumb down the lyrics even more and shoot for more of a Fall Out Boy sound on a number of tracks and write more "ballad" style songs after the cult following of "hey there delilah" (which has since turned from a fan favorite/cult ditty to a full blow top 10 hit, reworked with backing vocals and strings! yippee!) there was a point in time, like 4 years ago or so, where i actually liked these guys a lot. theri last 2 albums managed to crush that though Aren't these guitar-holding vaginas responsible for that shitty "Hey There Delilah" song? If so, I hate them all. Score is for that song and how regularly I have to hear it. I like the Blink182 reference is the last sentence. whoops, i meant anchors. sorry, force of habit. well, justin obviously has a template for reviews he doesn't have time to do properly, it seems. i wonder if he gets bonus points for ending with a "clever" one-liner. between this and the love me destroyer review he's really showing what he's capable of -- nothing. 2nd place for album of the year. Is that really the cover? It looks like shit. Yeh this album blows. Plain White T’s are on a different plain, though. im guessing you were going for cute points with this review. up da cunts up tha punx |
