Huh, I never realized that this was never reviewed. That's weird. Well, it's about time. I'm going to try and keep this focused on the album itself, and not on the current output of the band. I want to focus on the sheer awesomeness of this short six-song EP. I have to admit, I got on the AM! bandwagon a little late. I started with Eternal Cowboy and worked my way back. Then the day came when I got this bad boy at my local record store. I got home and put it in my stereo with only one working speaker and was blown away. I had already fell in love with this band, and this only furthered it.

i saw them at the metro on thanksgiving when they played accoustic and it was awesome. they played everything off of crime except "burn". if only they played all of their shows like this and not at arenas with the foo fighters (not saying foo fighters is a bad band). "For those that are true anarchists, believing in localized commune living, the absence of a monetary economy and the absence of state, AM! must truly sold their soul. you gotta see this from both sides i think." “ I just can't help but feeling really betrayed by this band thought their recent actions.” "I Still Love You Julie" is one of my favorite songs of all time. "Also, I'd rather listen to New Wave than Crime. The first thing I did when I opened this review was: you need to realize that by 'anarchist' i mean someone who would wear and anarchist tee and be pretty pleased about flag burning. of course i don't think many 14 year olds have read Godwin or anything but then i think most people mature enough to read political texts are mature enough to know that anarchism is quite nice in theory but a bit crap in practice. what do you base that "most anarchists are 14 year olds anyways" on? i didn't even consider myself an anarchist until i was at least 17 As for the debate beneath. I really don't think you can blame against me! for changing their views (although they have changed ALOT in a relatively short amount of time) but by the same token you can't blame fans for getting upset. Sure most 'anarchists' are 14 year olds with a gripe, but it is a legitimate philosophical and political standpoint. For those that are true anarchists, believing in localized commune living, the absence of a monetary economy and the absence of state, AM! must truly sold their soul. you gotta see this from both sides i think. This is a good release. Personally, New Wave got old real fast, but good songs nonetheless. score is for dantes comment. Posted by Dante3000 on 2007-11-16 12:24:22 despite the mediocrity of the rest of the album i though that animal and the ocean were great tracks, and though a different direction, a step forward for AM! to red_eye_inc.: thank you for the approval and kind words on my review. It was my first and i appreciated the comment (for any record. i'm not saying the new record is bad, it just sucks when artists don't seem to try, but maybe i was being too harsh...) for the record, i happen to like the tegan song If this record was as good as you're saying why didn't Sire release IT instead of New Wave? can someone explain to me what "folk-punk" is? "To the first comment on this review: i'm not arguing that their new stuff is good... i think New Wave is really bland, and Searching was even worse. this EP, RAR, and Eternal Cowboy are fantastic and the band's best work. that silly song with the emo chick "or they just altered their opinion from when they were idealistic anarchist teenagers. God forbid. i'm sure you've never done that." If this record was as good as you're saying why didn't Sire release IT instead of New Wave? I'm gonna sound like a typical angry ex-fanboy; I heard somewhere that it was one of the first songs Tom wrote. Then, later on, he just became disenchanted with the meaning of the song, so he does not play it anymore. i dunno, Tom said something in an interview once. Definitely their best release, and one of the best things I own. Every song is absolutely perfect. it really has ruined this "ep" for me because you look at what the band is doing today and you see that every idea being conveyed through this release, is now and probably was a lie. This EP, in my opinion, is the culmination of all their pre-full length work. Though "Walking..." is much better as an electric song on "Reiniventing Axl Rose". anybody know whatever happened with that whole "smashing heads into coffee table" thing? was there a court date, conviction, or what? or did he just have to spend the night in jail and that was it? To the first comment on this review: those were the days... I bought this back when I was a huge Operation: Cliff Clavin fan and it did very little for me. I thought the same thing I think when I hear any Against Me album: Hey, this first song is pretty cool, but wait... is he gonna stop screaming any time soon? have they really disowned "Burn"? I know they don't play this stuff often (and by often, i mean very, very rarely) but when I saw 'em a few months back they played "Impact"... shame, cause its such a good song. To think we have to listen to "Stop!" or that silly song with the emo chick instead of "For What we Worked"... Smashing I totally agree with your review and I think that everything you are saying holds water. it really has ruined this "ep" for me because you look at what the band is doing today and you see that every idea being conveyed through this release, is now and probably was a lie. Great Review because this is prolly one of the best folk punk, whatever you wanna call it, released in the last 10 years. great review though! Everything Against Me! does rules, from Crime to New Wave. |
