Last year's break-up of upstate New York's Marathon was a blow for a lot of fans who felt that band had the potential to be the "next big thing." With the band appealing to different crowds (both the melodic/skatepunk crowd as well as hardcore kids loving them), one could go on for hours about this possibility. However, from the ashes of this great band came not one but two former Marathon members (guitarist Nate Morris and drummer Emmett Menke) joining fellow upstate New Yorkers Polar Bear Club; months later came the official debut (at least in the live show circuit) of vocalist Aaron Scott's new sometimes-solo, sometimes-acoustic project, Attica! Attica!.

This CD is an absolute masterpiece. Thanks to Mikexdude for introducing this to me. The songs are mostly just a piano and the singer, but the two come together perfectly, the singer's voice telling a story while the notes convey emotions. Some of the songs and lyrics almost bring me to tears at times. Needless to say I highly recommend checking out this CD. To TheMarc: I haven't heard this yet, but this is a very well written review. Score is for Marathon. the album is amazing, the dude is flawless. one of my heros, who also happens to be a good friend. Also, in retrospect, Tim Barry and Chuck Ragan playing country influenced music with their solo acts is not entirely surprising when you think about it. Avail was/is heavily influenced by folk and Southern music in their own material, and Chuck played with Rumbleseat as a side project along with HWM. So really, regardless if you think it's "wrong", with those guys, it actually makes sense. I wish this was the new Marathon album instead. I wish this was the new Marathon album instead. Love this guy's voice, love this record. Aaron Scott is one of the most underrated modern punk icons. I love this album. agreed, this album rules | Features
