Published on November 16th 2001 Does melodic skate punk get any better than Pulley? If it does, I haven't heard it. "60 Cycle Hum" was this super-punk-band's second release. In 1997, the band still had Jordan Burns on drums, and you can most definitely tell on songs like "If" and "Hold On". Scott's voice is at peak performance on this record, ranging from high pitched wails to low key, somewhat subtle pitches (no pun there). He continues to have one of the most versatile, and recognizable voices in all of punk rock today. The guitars on "60 Cycle Hum" are perfectly pitted against each other, filling out the sound that so many bands spend careers looking for. As far as speed goes, Pulley is rounding third while the rest of the world is just getting out of the batter's box. In other words, THEY'RE REALLY FAST! And, if you thought that was it, you're wrong again. Pulley's lyrics complete the album in fine, well-writtten, thought provoking fashion. "60 Cycle Hum" can range from blistering, So-Cal maddness (Hold On) to mid-tempo melodic jewels (Mandingo), and even slower, harder songs (Four Walls). Really, they are everything a punker looks for in a band. Talented, aggressive, and great song writing ability. "60 Cycle Hum" is a three pitch strike out, and that's a good thing. For a punk rock album (and a damn good one at that) could they have made the volume and lower? must have. Decent review, a little longer would have been a bit better. This is my second fav album next to Strung Out's Twisted By Design. Goes to show you there is a lot of talent here that shouldn't be just over looked. Most of the songs have different members contributing vocals. Their style has changed a lot since this album. For better or worse this is still my favorite Pulley album. Scott Radinsky recently sign a 625000 contract with the Indians. Fucking Jerk, Hope that i will not make the same old shit like tne foot polo Good album.. I enjoyed it alot when I first got it, although I don't listen to it much anymore.. but I did put it on just the other day. =) hey look as far as standard fare I'm sure this is good stuff but come on a ten? why don't we give all albums tens? if this is a ten then what is London Calling or Double Nickels on the Dime? 11? 12? 13 maybe? Never have heard this cd. Good review. And as for the guy below me you are entitled to your opinion but it sucks. Pulley and Pennywise write awesome lyrics. hmm everything a punker looks for? well maybe if Pulley could grasp the concept of originality and see that changing tempos does not make for a wholly different song then they might actually be worthwhile, also the Pennywiseish vague lyrics that are about as bland and cliche as you can get don't help. This album is a forgettable throwaway |
