I know my gender reversal doesnt work in terms of a hardcore band fronted by a woman. I didnt take the initial comment to be about a hardcore frontman running around feeling up grils at shows. I took like this:

two people (don't even have to be of opposite sex!) are sitting around consentually making out and feeling one another up. thats it.

in regard to your personal comment, I have a very deep respect for people's personal and sexual boundries. That's great that you think i'm a prick, this does nothing but excentuate my point. You are taking all of this way too seriously.

If you really want to get into the nitty gritty i spent three years with in a relationship with a girl who was raped. I know all about internal moniters. I also, however, have a sense of humor.

i dont think that too many 'old heads' think shai hulud peaked with 'that within blood.....'

The constant claim to lighten up just doesn't hold as much weight as it did when I was young and impressionable. I know the legacy of the interwebs is that you never have to say your sorry, but I wasn't the only person who noticed it.

The idea that someone would have made the same comment but with the gender reversed, that girls had felt up a guy, for a female fronted hardcore band, is laughable.

Imagine saying that comment genders reversed or not about Hiretsukan, because any band singing about equality fronted by a woman, you say that, it wouldn't make any damn sense, it would stick out like a sore thumb. Not as being offensive, it simply wouldn't make sense. How would you ever say the opposite thing in a way that didn't clearly sound ridiculous, particularly in the hardcore genre?

And it isn't that people feel other people up, we all love stifler's filmography, yay breasts, but that its significant in terms of value that someone hadn't, has not, or did not do it as much as another person. That is what was asserted in the review, that is the problem, not puppy dog third base/short stop love.

And to somehow put that in a record review is irrelevant, pointless, and would make a great review if I was pissed, it was 3 AM, I wasn't paying attention to what was being said, and I was trying to drive the reviewer home. Then, it would be endearing.

Thank you for taking my joke about taking things way too seriously, way too seriously.

In my experience, feeling others up is what one does, as much as possible, in the teenage years. That sentence could have read girls feeling up boys (yes that does happen). The reviewer was just making the distinction that Shai Hulud are not to a young band, and shouldnt be lumped in with young hardcore bands.

Jesus Christ people (oh my god, i probably just offended someone! oh no!) get overselves.

This is a solid release.

The production is great, as the review stated, and I'd say that some of the guitar work is their best to-date. Re-recording Set Your Body Ablaze is an interesting choice, particularly because of the short length of this record. So it only counts as ten original tracks, which is typically enough for a punk/hardcore act, but it's all over too soon for me.

I guess I can never get enough Hulud.

What I like best about this album is that it's a much faster paced album than previous efforts. It adds a bit of that frenetic, more straight-forward approach that their side project, Zombie Apocalypse had, and I'm so thankful for that.

Now do another ZA release, Matts.

Since people's sarcasm radars tend to become "jammed" while reading reviews on the internet I will hold your hand and guide you through what I meant.

With my comments about womens clothes, I was merely poking fun at the whole "hardcore kids wearing girls pants and makeup" trend that I find to be pretty silly. Since Shai Hulud is such an old band I wanted to make it clear to individuals who might not be familiar with their music that they aren't a new band, and that they aren't mixed up in current trends for the sake of cashing in, like a lot of new younger bands currently playing heavy music. I wanted to make it clear that Shai Hulud were playing this style of music when a lot of these newer bands who rip them off were stil prepubescent little trolls.

Thats really all I meant. I have no qualms with individuals who decide to choose an alternate lifestyle if it suits their fancy. I would never refer to a person wearing womans clothes as a "fag" to cite the example you used. We are talking about two completely different things here.

I was merely, like i said, poking fun at the new crop of kids who think they are rockstars doing this thing, putting fashion and image over being a band kids might be able to look up to.

I apologize for not being a sterile, politically correct robot.

Actually, I was going to comment on this reviews first couple sentences and was surprised to find a few people already have. I think that indicates it might be more than a few oversensitive people.

Sorry, but this has never happened before, I got the distinct feeling reading the first few lines that if I was a girl reading it I'd feel like shit and completely excluded. I'm something that gets felt up like a finish line to be crossed, posi!

And is the problem with people wearing women's clothing that they are wearing it or that it isn't a big deal anymore? I mean I remember the guy from Furious George in the early 90s wearing women's jeans and being called a faggot. Is it bad if that doesn't happen as much? Granted, no one's music is getting better and the motivations for the fashion choice is probably shallow, but you can talk about hardcore music without being macho.

I swear. Doesn't help that such a stance would fit the stereotype for a fan of this music, so good going.

Funny, I thought New Lexicon was the definition of over-hyped, and I love Paint It Black. I guess that's what happens when you have to follow Paradise...

meh. doesnt impress me as a Shai Hulud fan. and the re-recording of ABLAZE is horrid. sounds like Evergreen Terrace doing another cover album.

nowadays, 95% of hardcore/metalcore is fucking complete and utter garbage. thank god for shai hulud, more lineup changes and their still better then every other band in the genre.

Listened to this and wasn't impressed. Followed it up by listening to Paint It Black - New Lexicon and realized why.

No mention of the lyrics at all? That's possibly the most important part about this band...

The reviewer could have done without the first couple sentences.

As far as this record goes, I found it to be pretty average. Some songs were pretty sweet, but then others gave me the aural equivalent of deja-vu. Not bad, but this is not really groundbreaking or innovative by any means in 2008. Ten years ago, totally, but I think they're running out of steam with this one.

This is actually a pretty rad album, one of the best metal albums so far this year.
