Tilly and the Wall / The Ruby Sunslive in Brooklyn (2008)live show Reviewer Rating: Contributed by: Brian (others by this writer | submit your own) Published on July 30th 2008
Local all-female trio Vivian Girls began playing a few good minutes after the scheduled start time. I'm glad I wasn't anticipating it terribly; the threesome played frustratingly dull and rather straightforward garage "rock." Even they looked bored, so we were bored. The band worked best when throwing in a few creative riffs, but that happened only twice, and for all-too-brief a moment each; an often steady but stale drumbeat didn't help matters. Crowd reaction came via polite claps, but the barely half-filled venue wasn't exactly bringing the ruckus quite yet.

just got into this band not long ago. the stomp/tapdance thing is a little gimmicky, but it's surprisingly fun. too bad i just missed them not two nights ago, plying not 3 blocks away from my fucking house. more show reviews should be like this. can't comment on the show scores for review. Great review. I was at this as well. Vivian Girls were alright, not that energetic, but played its own brand of garage-rock/punk. Even though, it's a shame they only got a 15 minute set, but they fit in more than a handful of songs. I wasn't digging The Ruby Suns either, seemed generic, but TIlly and the Wall brought a dance party. I loved the set. It was awesome. And 3 was "Jumbler," not "Alligator Skin," I almost made that mistake myself. I definitely felt alive by the end of their set as "Nights of theLiving Dead" said. I loved their live performance. Good times. | Features
