Reno, Nevada's favorite sons, Cobra Skulls have returned with three new jams in the form of the Never Be A Machine 7".

These songs tread the familiar but enjoyable routes first forged on the band's full-length Sitting Army. "Never Be A Machine" is a quick opener that's made by the vocal performances, both lead and backup -- especially the call-and-repsonse parts that end the song. The rockabilly guitar playing in "Lost In Campaigns" adds a distinct touch to the song before delving into a furiously fast bout of punk that's some of the most ripping material the band has ever put to tape. "The Streets of Cairo (Cobralectric)" is the 'ballad' of this collection, a mid-tempo tune that's in line with a lot of the Clash-inspired material on Sitting Army.

Never Be A Machine does a fine job of showing three different facets of the Cobra Skulls sound, and for an uninitiated listener would serve as a nice introduction to the band's style of punk/folk/crust/rockabilly/whatever.

i think fitting 'cobra' in every title is a neat little schtick. made me laugh.

    "Where can i get this!?"

Interpunk should have some physical copies very very soon.

You can buy it online through the usual suspects; iTunes, Amazon, etc.

    Where can i get this!?

I hate how the band tries to use the word "cobra" in their song titles. Very stupid. Score is for that.

Too bad you didn't actually read this review, you'd see two song titles mentioned that don't use the word "cobra" at all.

    telegraphrocks (August 6, 2008)

One of the best active bands out there!

Also, how have they NOT used :Cobra Skull-Fuck" as a title?

I really like this band. But that wasn't always the case. I thought whatever. Sitting Army was played a few times to me, by different people, while hanging out. About the 8th time, I said, "Holy Shit". And just like that, I love it.
Same thing happened to me with the Elected. Does that happen to anybody?

Also, This review was so short. I've heard kids go into greater deal about their hair. Can't complain with a solid score.

you should probably start with Dead End Stories

If you think this band just sounds like another so-cal band then youre deaf.

I don't know if deaf is the right word, I just know they didn't impress me live. You seem to be a fan, where would you suggest a newcomer start?

This EP is great! I can't wait for their next full-length.

And I laughed when they included (cobraelectric) as part of the "The Streets of Cairo's" title.

    xaviersinclair (August 5, 2008)

    fallingupwards84 (August 5, 2008)

when i first saw the title i thought it was a cobra starship album, or whatever that band is

    Mrdogg45 (August 5, 2008)

I saw these guys open for Against Me! a few months back and was thoroughly unimpressed with them. Sounded just like standard So-Cal punk. Maybe I missed something...
