I don't think anyone expects Leftover Crack to ever make a new album, but Star Fucking Hipsters come damn close. As everyone knows, this is the side project for LOC alum Stza Crack and LOC/Slackers drummer Ara Slack. Along with their buddies of other bands, they decided to get serious and record.

I don't think anyone expects Leftover Crack to ever make a new album, but Star Fucking Hipsters come damn close.

As everyone knows, this is the side project for LOC alum Stza Crack and LOC/Slackers drummer Ara Slack. Along with their buddies of other bands, they decided to get serious and record a proper full-length. Now we have Until We're Dead, a healthy dose of that crack rock steady beat for 2008.

As with everything Scott Sturgeon touches, the songs are punk and catchy yet raw. It makes a pretty good sound. The album starts with an intro, which is kind of lame and expected nowadays. Luckily, it's short. It then slides into the piano intro of the title track on the album. "Until We're Dead" is a great song -- it has everything you'd expect in a Sturg number. The next track, "Immigrants & Hypocrites," is easily my favorite. With a mix of Nico de Gallo's speedy vocals and catchy guitar hooks, it's hard to not love.

One thing I was oddly surprised to find on the album was ska. I know it's almost a right of passage for any crack rock steady band, but I always thought of SFH to be more of a catchy punk band. "Snitch to the Suture" is a great ska tune that reminds me of Operation Ivy. And "Zombie Christ" is a really fun song with a dumb name.

A song I didn't like at first but totally grew on me is the five-minute "Only Sleep." It starts out slow and generally boring, but then the chorus bursts in and totally redeems the song -- mainly because of the keyboards. Punk bands need more keyboards.

Overall, this is a great album and I'd recommend it to any LOC/CV fan. It's a nice change of pace having a chick vocalist to accent the music. Even though they aren't reinventing the crack rock steady wheel, they're doing their part to keep it going.

I can't wait to see what Morning Glory has to offer.

Great, thats what you have to say about it? this is AMAZING, even though the album had to grow on me before I started loving this to death.

Amazing record!

14theroad (February 24, 2009)

I didn't like this record at first but it's a grower. Definitely going to pick this up. And LOL @ Dante down there. I thought the same thing when I read that. Chix r hawt.

TheGuwumpkis (October 7, 2008)

Fucking great record!

xxhomeoapathyxx (October 6, 2008)

this cd was not too great. immigrants and hypocrites and two cups of tea are really good songs, but the rest is kinda mediocre, im just gonna say it. i was expecting a lot more from them i guess, but hey, its just a debut, maybe the next one will be better if there is a next one.

bigbuzzaldrin (October 5, 2008)

i've always thought that stza's guitars sound like tom delonge circa '96-'98... minus the ska

thomas7155 (October 5, 2008)

Score is for wasting perfectly good donuts.

Stza is a cocksucker.

telegraphrocks (October 5, 2008)

Paying to download an album is fucking stupid. If you're gonna download, why pay? If you're gonna pay, get the real thing.

This message brought to you by NBC: The More You Know!!! (star flies across the screen right... now!)

bxbomber (October 5, 2008)

What the fuck is with this not being available on Itunes?

It seems alot of Fat recors are missing from itunes.

jamespastepunk (October 5, 2008)

Score's for the World/Inferno Friendship Society.

notfeelingcreative (October 5, 2008)

I decided a few months ago that I was done with the crs family, but after seeing the positive response for this album, I suppose I'll order it when I preorder CIVILWAR.

victim (October 4, 2008)

and you give him a perfect score? you're confused/lost as fuck...

Well, I don't necessarily think of 5 stars as "perfect" but what he doesn't do is come at you with strident moralizing sentimentality. How many others can you think of..?

Nap (October 4, 2008)

This is kinda boring

ExtraCheesePizza (October 4, 2008)

Saw them last night in Philly too, and I agree, a lot more fun than the last time I saw Leftover Crack. They even offered the crowd some delicious baked goods...

essenceoftong (October 4, 2008)

one of the albums of the year.

robbykillsfromdelaware (October 4, 2008)

This album has grown on me in the past few days. Saw them in Philly tonight and they were pretty good.

Also yes, Stza seems to be a lot happier. I think he was getting sick of playing in Leftover Crack and constantly being swarmed by people making obnoxious requests. Last time they played in Baltimore I witnessed a bunch of younger kids trying to get both his and the guitarist, Ezra's cell phone numbers, and being super annoying about the fact that they were denied.

....or maybe he just stopped doing super-hard drugs

fallingupwards84 (October 4, 2008)

Score is for Stza

and you give him a perfect score? you're confused/lost as fuck...

telegraphrocks (October 4, 2008)

I'd like to bring up the scores and comments about Stza.

If it was a while back, sure, I'd agree with you. I've seen him and heard him be a cock-fuck to his fans on several occasions.

However, in the past year (?) I've heard many turn-around stories, and that he's actually cool again. I saw SFH 2 weeks ago, and he was cool as shit then.

I'm not gonna rate him, but I'm more pro-Stza now than in recent years.

Again, score's for the album. I love the fuck out of it.

victim (October 3, 2008)

I think it starts strong and stays pretty good throoughout, although I think a few songs are a bit longish

Score is for Stza

Lmnndtlgrph (October 3, 2008)

that cover art is terrible -is this a high school band?

NewKid (October 3, 2008)

What the fuck is with this not being available on Itunes?

Rastid (October 3, 2008)

This is a really solid CD. I definitely prefer the dancier parts, because the non-melodic parts aren't hard/fast enough.

dlangl4 (October 3, 2008)

I think it's a good cd.

jacknife737 (October 3, 2008)

Glad the reviewer enjoyed this, i however, do not.

Score is for Staz

CCSummers (October 3, 2008)

listening to this now
Gotta say, as big of a LoC/CV/MG/INDK/CRS7 fan I am, was, this sounds really bad.
I'm pretty sure stza is just getting worse since fuck world trade. The LoC/Citizen Fish split was pretty fucking weak too

Dante3000 (October 3, 2008)

It's a nice change of pace having a chick vocalist to accent the music.

Wait...what? Yeah, good to have some snatch in there to spice up the mix. Nice.

One thing you have to give Scott, he knows how to create a tizzy.

nocigar (October 3, 2008)

i'll admit that there are a few good songs on here, "Empty Lives" is a great song and "Only Sleep" is good too..but other than that, as some would say, "meh."

damo (October 3, 2008)

"punk bands need more keyboards"??????????

i think you're the one on crack mate

nocigar (October 3, 2008)

oh ya, I liked Choking Victim...but this is boring shit.

nocigar (October 3, 2008)

8? are you kidding me? no. more like a 6 at best.

JimmyHogHands (October 3, 2008)

I enjoy leftover crack and choking victim, but this album is BORING!

mikexdude (October 3, 2008)

I hate leftover crack, I hate choking victim, I hate ska, stza is a cunt, this was bad.

telegraphrocks (October 3, 2008)

I thought this wouldn't be that good... I was wrong.

Suck my dick, I'm handing out my first "10" of the year.

whitreyu (October 3, 2008)

Ska you say? I may have to give this a whirl.

xote (October 3, 2008)
