In 2005, Swede Emanuel Lundgren got some friends together to record a one-off EP project -- 29 friends to be exact. They were supposed to play one show. Word started spreading about the group and their amazing pop tunes and soon they were signed to EMI Sweden. The EP got a re-release and Lundgren started penning more tracks for a full-length, 2006’s pop-fest Let Me Introduce My Friends. The band started to play out more with whatever members could attend, and made their first trip to the states to play Lollapalooza in 2007, a video I would highly recommend seeking out. While it seems ridiculous to have a 28-member band (they lost one somewhere) and touring and splitting money must be a real bitch, when it comes to the studio they don’t have to hire any additional musicians. While about half of the members are solely background vocalists, the others can cover the basics of drums, percussion, guitars, bass and synths, as well piano, sax, clarinet, flute, trumpet, tuba, accordion, mandolin, ukulele and banjo.

Dammit, found a typo. 'trying TOO hard to be artsy.' I only proofread this like a dozen times... In the end, when I'm from Barcelona balance the combination of originality with sounding like everyone else is truly where they truly know how to rock out quite finely I'm getting the thirteen and half stars thing in my reviews too. Stop. I'm from America, and here in America we only need 3-4 people in a band. Guitar, bass, drums, and vocals is all you need to rock! These people don't rock. Nothing but fruity horns and choir singing. Sounds like they are a gospel band praising the forrest in the middle of the woods. Yeah, it did that for my last review of Skin. I just ignored it. Tiny Mix Tapes also gave this a good review. I ahdn't heard of them untill then and now this. I like good pop music and 28 people is fucking awesome i've always liked collectives of the sort. Will check these people out! So on my screen here where it says 'Your Rating,' it usually gives us reviewers the same score that we reviewed it at. However, on this album, it shows THIRTEEN and a half stars. Wtf? I mean I liked this album, but 13 stars?! Damn. Anyone else getting a similar thing? SoKo and this band sounded totally awesome to me a year ago. Now I go back and wonder what I saw in those songs. They seem to have no lasting power at all. I haven't heard this new album yet, though. Hope it's got a bit more, i dunno... layers to it? Score is for SoKo. | Features
