Get Bent get another notch in their still-tiny discography belt with this nifty little split 7" with Jean Claude Jam Band. Same for JCJB too, since all they have is a split with the Serious Geniuses and a demo themselves.

Demo 2008 had a fun, undeniably Latterman-esque feel -- the type of pop-punk New York City / Long Island and Gainesville go apeshit for and the rest of the country try to set up scenes of themselves. Get Bent's "Face Mush" is a logical continuation of that ethos, with rambled, super fun vocals and a great gruff bark dynamic from another member towards the end. If you liked the demo, you'll like this. It's just a little more riffy in the beginning, maybe. Despite the defeatist lyrics ("I'll try as hard as I can and hope for the best / Sometimes it feels like you do the best that you can / (You try and try and try) but no one really wins in the end"), you barely notice the contrast.

For some reason, I could hear Jean Claude Jam Band based just off their name. "Say No" is that down-home, feel-good, Americana-tinged mid-tempo punk that sounds like the Replacements, on a porch, with a cold one -- with lyrics that read seriously Springsteen-esque to me. I know punk rock can't get through one review lately without a mention of The Boss, but c'mon, look at these opening lines: "Pale girls in the summer heat / couldn't pay 'em to look at me." Are you really gonna sit there and deny it? I'd hope not. This song is pretty old, considering (recorded in summer 2006), but it sounds fresh enough to me.

(Very) short but (pretty) sweet.

Thanks for clearing that up Dave, I knew Jared was in the band but offhand I couldn't remember if someone else from Get Bent was too.

I will hopefully be at the show tomorrow if my sinus infection clears up. I REALLY want to see you guys (Thousandaires).

Oh and Blackjaw dude, don't know if you realized but Yo Man, Go! is done too.

I'm gonna disagree, I think Face Mush is Get Bent's BEST song... and I find it funny that you consider Thousandaires a better band when half of Get Bent is in that band too.

For the record, I love the Thousandaires demo though.

Thousandaires, The Ruining, Arms Aloft, The Anchor, Aspirations, Castevet, Hawks and Doves, Over Stars and Gutters, The Cold Beat, Wormburner, Halfway To Hell Club, Above Them, Yo Man Go!, etc. to name... most of them.

Kinda true. I think Get Bent is better than the Ruining, Castevet and Arms Aloft, though -- both of whom I've reviewed before. Castevet will probably change that with their full-length, though.

Thousandaires is pretty great. They're only "overlooked" because they've played like one show and the demo's only three songs. Plus they've only really been publicized on If You Make It and here.

I've also reviewed the Anchor and Halfway to Hell Club. I'll probably review that Hawks and Doves 7" soon, too.

really disappointed I never got to see them.

Sorry about the "overrated" comment, it came out wrong. I was just trying to say I wish those other bands got as much 'press' (for lack of better word) as Get Bent. I listen to the demo a few times a week and enjoy it, it's good 'walking to school' music. See what do I know, I'm still in high school.

What the shit? When did they break up? And they're not "overrated" at all, but they are damn good.

    yeah we're done.

and for people who don't think we're "overrated", thanks.

    Ugh... sorry.

The Get Bent song is their worst so far, and I think that band's a bit overrated. There are many "less than 10 songs to their name" bands around right now that are far better, but get little recognition.

Jean Claude Jam Band's song, on the other hand, is great. I have their split with The Serious Geniuses and those 2 songs are also great.

Their bass player told me they were over (he's also in Jonesin' and was in Down In The Dumps). He said the demo will be pressed as a 7" and they have another 5 songs that will go up as a free digital download.

Can someone please set it straight. Is Get Bent over?

I ordered this. Really stoked to hear it. I loved the Get Bent demo.
