Indie hip-hop has emerged as a force as powerful and influential as any other subgenre of independent music in the past few years, with labels like
Epitaph/Anti-, Ipecac, Definitive Jux and Rhymesayers embracing the genre and giving it the kind of independent credibility that it deserves. Musicians
like Dälek, Atmosphere, El-P and P.O.S. are definitely among the most interesting musicians working in independent hip-hop right now, and are those
most able to bring the oft-maligned genre to non-hip hop fans.

I lstened to Limp Bizkit "Significant Other" and then the new P.O.S. and the drop off in talent/beats was staggering "Kid Dynamite's Jason Shevchuk? I love KD as much as the next guy but he's had 2 and a half bands since then. It's like saying Slapstick's Brendan Kelly." speaking of great punk-influenced rap records that people on the org just can't get enough of, where's the Crazytown review? "I lstened to Jay-Z "Reasonable Doubt" and then the new P.O.S. and the drop off in talent/beats was staggering" I love this damn record. I lstened to Jay-Z "Reasonable Doubt" and then the new P.O.S. and the drop off in talent/beats was staggering I meant to copy the MC Lars bit, but my general response remains the same. score is for the taste in rap amongst what appears to be a majority of the org my one complaint is some of the beats are two minimal otherwise, solid gold. this record kicks ass. this album's a real pos, lol cheesetits: immortal technique sucks ass. now mc paul barman? that's the real shit. laughable. you guys probably think that mc lars is a good rapper. this cd is a joke. cheesetits: immortal technique sucks ass. now mc paul barman? that's the real shit. i love that there was a Mitch Hedburg reference in the first song that took me 2 days to figure out what it was from I love the punk kids who dabble in hip hop, and when it's an artist they dislike, they project their holier than thou attitude into "you punk kids don't know know what real hip hop is, I know, I'm street raised, I know what's really real" and then list obscure shit or just Immortal Technique. Fuck off. fuck this shit, shoulda posted my review Kid Dynamite's Jason Shevchuk? I love KD as much as the next guy but he's had 2 and a half bands since then. It's like saying Slapstick's Brendan Kelly. score is for the taste in rap amongst what appears to be a majority of the org laughable. you guys probably think that mc lars is a good rapper. this cd is a joke. I second that derek This album is fucking excellent. By far one of the best of 2009 so far. I swear, everyone affiliated with Doomtree can't produce anything bad. One of my favorites so far. Great year for music. This album's just a beast. Really, it's one hell of a disc. "Drumroll," "Savion Glover," "Low Light Low Life" and "Terrorish" are all mega-jams. ("Terrorish" features Jason Shevchuk, FYI -- it's a pretty sick guest spot, I think.) Fuck Yes. Doomtree, time to let it be known Score is for the songs on the album. Pretty good shit. I have to say though, a great great deal of that has to do with the beats, not the rapping. But both are solid. I don't listen to hiphop normally, it's not been my thing, and I've enjoyed a couple of Sage Francis' darker tracks off of Human, the Death Dance, but every fucking song on the disc operates at an intensity that makes puts a huge smile on my face. This is a shoe-in for my top ten, hell probably my top 5 of 2009. Incredible work. God has spoken. dig more than atmosphere's when life gives you lemons... 2nd best album out so far. Scrambles def takes #1. it just sucks that all the songs are not nearly as captivating as the standouts like "Drumroll" and "The Basics." seems obvious that he should stick to really high energy stuff. and the female verse in "Low Light, Low Life" (which has a very nice beat) has a really annoying cheesed out vibrato thing going on that kinda mars the whole verse. Would be my favorite rap album of the year. Little short for my taste but I feel a review by Aubin caries a bit of weight, even if it's short. Great cd, easily the best so far this year. |
