In its essence, Bomb the Music Industry!'s arsenal of calculated bleeps, drum machines, horns and intertwined keyboards are just downright catchy, but Jeff Rosenstock won't let his precious brainchild be a victim of producing cheap thrills; he chases down infectiousness with a lyrical shot of cynicism, sarcasm and reality that hits the heart harder than wooden stakes in Salem's Lot. Trying to review Scrambles ultimately leaves my brain "scrambled"; it's undeniably Rosenstock's greatest work -- the arrangements are diverse from ska upstrokes ("It Shits!") to the comforting resonance of piano ("Fresh Attitude, Young Body") and the lyrics are more pensive than ever; personally, however, it just fails to jab me in the gut like their 2006 pinnacle, Goodbye Cool World.

love this record so hard. I can't wait for the next Bomb the Music Industry! album to come out. They just keep getting better and better. Jeff Rosenstock is a lyrical genious and puts on a great live show. I make it to their show every time they're in town. Support this band, download their records, and donate. Tell all your friends. clearly Aubin is the most important voice in punk, since he post nothing but news about shit bands, thus funneling the .org community down a path of nu-emo and pop punk trash! yeah.. i get you man.. and i dont really find it a bogus statement. "its weird how no one has brought up any other names when questioning the 'most important voice in punk' statement" its weird how no one has brought up any other names when questioning the 'most important voice in punk' statement. Get Warmer was definitely a grower, but Scrambles has been great from day one. Score is for Jeff "The Clash" Rosenstock. score is for me 'cause i'm a nicer guy than some of y'all are lettin' on. Shut up the punx reminds me of Zyclone B Bath House "what is life quality or quantity? since when does that get decided by majoirty?" Welp, I put all their shit on my ipod last night, put that shit on random while delivering today, and KABLAM!!.... I like Bomb The Music Industry! now. It's the same thing iIf I said: "The Descendents are the greatest band that ever played music," it is my opinion and maybe hyperbole to you, but to me, it's true. Remember what you said about others having opinions. mike "Laughable. Get over this guy, please. Those lyrics are simple and direct, and there's something to be said about that style of writing because it can be pretty effective, but come on. There's nothing here that's making him "the only voice in punk that matters." I love the amount of hyperbole that gets thrown around when doing reviews. You gave it an 8, yet you didn't connect with it all that well? Seems ridiculous." I fucking love how overrated this band is. Only voice in punk that matters? Eh... Jeff says plenty of significant things that everyone should hear, but that's a stretch, buddy. Jeff Rosenstock is slowly becoming the only voice in punk that matters. "Anyways, review = personal opinion = me thinking no recent punk band has a leg to stand when it comes to jeff rosenstock's views = not hyperbole cause it's no exaggeration when I actually think it. Write your own review if you disagree, I mean, it took this long for someone to do it" Alright, I've hated everything this band has done, BUT, I am going to put all of their shit on my i-pod right now, and ONLY listen to them tomorrow while I'm delivering shit for work. "music that only sounds good to 12 year old morons" "Anyways, review = personal opinion = me thinking no recent punk band has a leg to stand when it comes to jeff rosenstock's views = not hyperbole cause it's no exaggeration when I actually think it. Write your own review if you disagree, I mean, it took this long for someone to do it" music that only sounds good to 12 year old morons ok...so, this record is pretty ok. This is probably my favorite BTMI! album, but has anyone else noticed that the download songs are in mono? Stereo would be nice. I'm quite impressed this time around. Jeff usually leaves me hanging a bit in the song construction department - he has great ideas that often don't quite make the translation from head to album intact. I think Scrambles is getting closer to crafting a good artistically and musically cohesive album. I like the difference in styles rather than just relying on one genre for inspiration. The Neutral Milk Hotel influence is well-stated and you can tell Jeff has really embraced some love of Lo-Fi music in general. I e-mailed Mike about the vinyl for this and he said Jeff hasn't even sent the artwork in yet, so I'd buy the cd and wait for the vinyl Score's for the review, by the way. I haven't heard the album yet, though I do have it. I'm saving it for when I can sit down and really LISTEN to it. I'm anal like that haha Hey man, really awesome review! Those are sometimes hard to come by around these parts! heard the first song..was really a fan of goodye cool world but yet to get into any of their/his other stuff great album, easily my favourite of the year so far I liked it, but think it's far from "undeniably" his greatest work I hate hyperbole so much that I want to blow up the universe. score is for both the review and the album It's not the best BTMI in my opinion, but I've been listening to this for the past two weeks now and I don't plan on stopping. This is why I love this band, because even a slower, sadder record still makes me love them. does the 'x' in mikexdude mean nothing to me? of course not. quite clearly it means xerostomia. After the first listen I thought that there was too many slow songs. But after repeated listens I started to appreciate the flow of the album, and now it's my BTMI favorite. I still prefer the faster songs like Can I Pay My Rent In Fun and Shut Up The Punx though. Very good review mikey, I pretty much agree with everything said. Fuck Tom Gabel, Jeff Rosenstock ftw. "The only voice in punk that matters? I guess you're forgetting about one Michael Graves" ...the postmodernist architect of such iconic structures as the Portland Building and UC's Engineering Research Center? Yeah, I could see that. Score is for his line of kitchen appliances available at Target department stores. I plan on having sex while this album is playing and stopping halfway through to sing along. "Anyone try clicking on their web link?" only voice in punk that matters? idk about that. but definitely a good album, not as good as Goodbye cool world though Anyone try clicking on their web link? Anyone try clicking on their web link? as an addendum, i really don't know why they keep writing slow songs. they always bring the record down. pretty much agree with this whole review. if you compare this to just about anything else, it's totally amazing, so i'd feel like a dick being too critical, but i'm not sure it meets their absurdly high standards. for each song that is classic BTMI! gold there is one that is skippable. (Shut Up) The Punx!! is one of the best songs Jeff's ever written, though. What am I smoking? Does the "x" in "mikexdude" mean nothing to you!??!?!??! you don't matter; in fact, in just a few seconds you won't even be matter. the only voice in punk that matters? what have you been smoking, mike? I've given every single one of their albums a shot, and never liked them. I don't get it. i just listened to these guys for the first time. i don't get it. it sounds like every other band that's ever bored me to tears. Okay review, much improved mike but the occasional flash of pretentiousness and outrageous hyperbole undermines the entire thing. No. 5 people posting something unfunny is not a meme... Each BTMI! (and Jeff Rosenstock) album has gradually gotten better than the one before, which is really saying something. "Three Cheers For Disappointment!" is an incredible ska/punk album, but it's the fifth best album Jeff has released. The release of "Get Warmer" was overshadowed by the "summer of 'New Wave' hate/love," yet I still felt it was the album of 2007. "This organisation doesn't feel like AN-AR-CHY" I find myself putting two songs from this album on repeat. Fresh Attitude, Young Body, because that's how I feel about life now after seeing friends, and family get laid off from their jobs, and (Shut) Up the Punx!!! just because I've been to shows where it was hosted/attended by people like this. I don't care what anyone says, no one speaks truth, music and harsh reality like Jeff Rosenstock. Scores for me being right and you all having nothing you can do about it. This record made my day, the only song i don't have the attention span for is $2,400,000, but (shut up) the punx more than makes up for it The only voice in punk that matters? I guess you're forgetting about one Michael Graves The only voice in punk that matters? I guess you're forgetting about one Jeff Rosen...oh. The only voice that matters? really? The only voice in punk that matters? I guess you're forgetting about one mr. ffwoodycooks, BFA. The only voice in punk that matters? I guess you're forgetting about one Dr. Jorge Casualty The only voice in punk that matters? I guess you're forgetting about one Mr. Maxim Jamal Bemis. I love this album. So far this is the album of the year. It might not be the best thing he's ever done (GCW was a perfect album) but this one is right up there and a million times better then Get Warmer. I don't dig the slow ballad songs at all. Too many of them on this one. But the fast songs are more rambling insane greatness. This is a very good album. am i the only one who thinks every btmi album is better than the last? Not a bad record at all. Not (yet) quite as memorable as "Goodbye Cool World" but handily edges out "Get Warmer". I get it Jeff, you take the train back and forth from Brooklyn and enjoy getting drunk off whiskey, but you aren't into the whole coke scene. Scrambles in a nutshell for ya! Great musical arrangements tho. With flawless articulation and brilliant songwriting, Jeff Rosenstock is slowly becoming the only voice in punk that matters. I like this album up the punx |
