| The Pains of Being Pure at Heart / ZAZAlive in Philadelphia2009 live show Review by: Jelone See others by this writer Only registered users can post comments Published on May 12th 2009
Ney York City bands the Pains of Being Pure at Heart and ZAZA made a quick stop at Philadelphia’s The Barbary before finishing up their spring tour together. And by quick, I mean half-hour sets. Maybe it was a mercy -- was I the only one in attendance who didn’t have a final the next day? Maybe it was a lack of songs -- the Pains could play their entire released discography and still not fill an hour. Either way, the too-brief night, however fun it was for the moment, felt anticlimactic in the end.

They've got a backing rhythm guitarist. From what I could tell, it looked like Berman played most of the leads. Yeah, their drummer is decent, but I'm not too keen on the production of it on the record. Probably sounds good live. Question Joe- they only have one guitarist, so how do they do the jangle/fuzz guitar tracks live? Just jangle or just fuzz? Or did they have an additional musician with them like on whatever late night show that was that they played? Despite their silly name, the more I listen to Pains the more I enjoy them. The line "taking toffee with your vicodin / something sweet to forget about him" from "Young Adult Friction" is evidence of how sharp this band can get. which name? Frankly, I think they both suck. what a horrible band name |
