Mustard Plug covering Fugazi? Bomb the Music Industry! covering Pavement? Who would've thought! One would never think of Fugazi and Pavement as influences on ska bands. But you know what? It works! This is probably my favorite release of the Under the Influence series so far, especially due to the fact that Mustard Plug and Bomb the Music Industry! are covering two bands on almost the opposite end of the music spectrum.

I can't say which cover Mustard Plug does is better, Waiting Room or The Freshman. fuck, pavement is so good. id put Crooked Rain in my top 5 (maybe). this and the cobra skulls/AJJ are tied for my favs of this series so far. i've been loving on Pavement really hard lately and BtMI! is one of my favourite bands and i think the cover is awesome. i still have to check out the Mustard Plug one though. Really? I was kind of bummed out by it. Mustard PLug was pretty good, better than I was expecting. I actually like the BTMI! version of "Gold Soundz" waaaaay better than the Pavement original. Oddly, this is probably my favorite release of this series thus far, and I'm not a massive fan of either band (although Scrambles is pretty awesome). After hearing Slingshot Dakota's Waiting Room cover, all others seem sub-par. The BTMI! track is pretty good. I'll give it 6/10. Too many stars! |
