| Social Distortion / Civetlive in Victoria2009 live show Review by: DarrenMcLeod See others by this writer Social Distortion (link) Only registered users can post comments Published on July 24th 2009
From the moment I walked into the venue, I knew that this show was going to be one of the most bizarre I'd ever been to. You see, this show was held at an old, fancy opera house. There was the main floor, a balcony and even those elevated boxes at the sides where, presumably, aristocrats in powdered wigs watch symphonies while holding tiny binoculars. Upon actually entering the theatre, we were ushered to our seats.

Pretty sure they played Bakersfield in Victoria too. Does Civet open every tour now? I really like that new song "Still Alive" Yes I'm happy they're pla 3 off Mommy's, but 'Don't Drag me down' is the titd to me. I was at this show too. 99% sure they didn't play I Was Wrong... Other than that good review. I like Social D and all, but their fans are kind of like the punk equivalent of the Raider Nation. @RonnieD - they actually played Bakersfield that night too! I somehow forgot to mention it. D'oh! only saw them once - in hollywood in '01 or '02 and it was the scariest crowd i've ever seen - it was was about 40% greasers, 50% mexican dudes in wife beaters, radiers hats, and bandanas covering their faces, and 10% kids like me with a bouncing souls shirt or something like that. Good review and score. I saw the Seattle date last Friday. It was cool that they opened with three songs from Mommy's Little Monster, but as you mentioned, it did seem like they were going through the motions a bit - but, what do you expect. Ness defintely doesn't and shouldn't have the same energy as he did during the recording of Mommy's. Enjoyed the new material, but some of it reminded me of a friday night biker bar house band - still optimistic though. Score is for the show. O RLY!!??? Maybe you should talk to Chuck Ragan? Well written review! I saw Social D in Vancouver on the weekend - caught the last half of Saturday's set and all of Sunday's show, and the band was amazing!!! I've been going to shows since '94 and this was one of the best concerts I've seen. The set list in Van was very similar; the only real difference I can remember was hearing"Bakersfield" and "Highway 101." While I would have liked to substitute a couple of songs, I thought the tracks spanned the band's history really well. That does seem like kind of a lackluster setlist. |
