Bouncing Souls / Lifetime / Tim Barrylive in Philadelphia (2009)Chunksaah Records Reviewer Rating: User Rating: Contributed by: Jelone (others by this writer | submit your own) Published on August 25th 2009
Aug. 22 and 23 brought Philadelphia two shows celebrating punk pioneers the Bouncing Souls’ 20th anniversary. While they’ve always been a New Jersey band through and through, the band has plenty of history in nearby Philly, not to mention the Trocadero, which hosted the concerts. Saturday saw support from 7 Seconds and None More Black, while Sunday, the night I attended, brought in Lifetime and former Avail frontman Tim Barry. From all accounts, it didn't matter which show you hit up; you were still in for a good time.

I was there for the Saturday show and had a great time... It was the first time I'd ever heard Late Bloomer in the 9 years that I've been seeing them an average of twice a year. I was upset that they only played Sing Along Forever and Kids and Heroes from Anchors Aweigh, however. I don't know if I'm sad or happy that I missed BMX Song. My older brother picked up the Green Ball Crew EP when the Souls came around with Lifetime the first time. Believe the band when they say that it sucks. I was at the first NYC show with NMB, Lifetime and the Souls... and I can honestly say it would have been perfect if NMB would've brought some enthusiasm. I love them recorded, and I am a huge Shevchuck fan, but they just did not 'bring it' that night. Shmeh, I would've paid the same amount just to see the Souls. Top three songs I wish the Souls would start incorporating into their setlist: 1. Serenity 2. Late Bloomer 3. I'm From There I enjoyed Tim's rant. It was a lot better than most rants. You could tell that he felt weird as crap up on stage though. good show. lifetime was very good, and the souls played everything at warp speed. Will Lifetime ever tour again? That was my request for Apartment 5F. I was so damn pumped. better than the night before Totally and utterly jealous you got to witness this. Such a great show. Had a total blast and can't wait til the Souls come around again in December. Tim just likes to get down in there with the audience to wake people up, and people love it, it wasn't sound issues. The only real technical difficulty was when he broke 3 strings trying to make it through "Avoiding Catatonic Surrender". He only played like 6 songs. The NY show was a lot of fun. Thursday night in NYC was one of the five best shows I've ever seen. Score's for that. Funny I was at this show and feel like it was definitely one of the blander Souls performances. They're always good - but they played a really short set! EDIT: That slow song turned out to be a cover of the Misfits' "Hybrid Moments." I'm sorry. | Features
