Mike's Brain late 2001:

I love millencolin. I'm so pumped they have a new album coming out. Man 2002 is going to rock! Wheeeeeeee!

Oh boy! Punknews post talking about a new millencolin song on their website. Better go download it. Man or Mouse. First listening: What the hell is this shit???? Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. NO, NO, NO, NO!!! Where is my millencolin of old. It seems slow. Next few listens: Eh it's not so bad I guess. I will have to see what the rest of the album sounds like.

A few weeks later: Epitaph says there is a new song on Millencolin's website, better go check it out. Fingers crossed. Holy shit! Now this is what I'm talking about. If the rest of the album is like this then I will be one happy son of a bitch.

Better go download the rest of the album. Press play. Well I know the first two songs so I better skip them. Jeez these other ones seem kind of slower too. Some have a good beat though so I might buy the album anyway.

February 2002, talking to my friend at the University. He tells my that he is hooked on the new Millencolin. I'm like, really? I didn't give it much of a chance. Maybe I gave up on them too soon.

Well I sat down and listened to the album from start to finish. Let me tell you DO NOT give up on this album too soon. Sure it is not quite as fast as the earlier stuff but the melodies and catchy as hell choruses are still there. Even the slowest song 'Battery Check' has a cool chorus that just sticks in my head.

Some other great standouts are the title track, Home from Home sung with Martin Cedergran. Afghan, which is the one song that really got me going on this album and Happiness for Dogs. As well I like the way Millencolin redid Kemp and Black Eye. I feel they added greatly to the songs by changing some of the lyrics and the music.

Usually when someone says a bands sound is progressing I say "That means the next album will sound slow and be very boring."(ie Face to Face IIB, not to start that war again) Well Millencolin has progressed and the lyrics are still as catchy as a virus and the music makes you want to shout 'Fuck ya!!!!!!!'

You may laugh now but I think this album will be on a few top ten lists by the end of the year.

    My Score:

Millencolin are a fucking great band, who cares if they changed there sound a bit, i like it. i think they did a killer job on Kemp and Blackeye making those 2 songs better than before. This review is good because the reviewer actually gave the band a chance instead of those other fucks that just trash an album when they probably don't listen to it. Like that one dick who reviewed The Maddies new album, he trashed it. WTF mad caddies fucking rule they do have there own style of ska. But back to Millencolin, they rock and are writting new songs for a new album.

Does anyone else think the production sucks? It seems so uneven and and just all-around crappy. This could of gotten a 4 if they woulda stuck with Brett.

I was pretty bummed when i heard all the songs from HFH. Millencolin is probably my favourite band and this seems nothing like the millencolin i know. I saw them with homegrown and bomshell rocks and they played most of thye wicked shit and only like 3 new songs so as long as they keep the kick ass shows i wont complain.

    My Score:

What a generic and boring band. It's been done a millions times before, and done a lot better (that goes for ALL of their albums).

    My Score:

This is a poor album I liked pennybridge pioneers, for monkeys and life on a plate but this is a dire album. They sound so bad especially kemp the album sounds like some shit the hives or strokes would crank out. I'm going to see them in April as well they better not play any of this shit! crap review dude like they post this but not my strung out american paradox review go figure??

oh ya, just skip the first song, its the worst of the bunch.

    My Score:

it's production is good but all the songs sound the same and its way too serious in it's tone. i can't take this seriously as much as i love this band this album is pretty boring.

Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at 7:13 AM (EST)
    My Score:

I don't like the album as much as the old ones. If they could do more songs like "Fingers Crossed" it would be better. Some songs are still good.

PS. Really bad review, dude. Sorry but it is.

    My Score:

a step backwards for Millencolin. not a bad album, but their past has proven they can do so much better. maybe it's time the band broke up before they get too caught up in a rut...

    My Score:

I agree, first time I thought HFH suck. (I didn't liked Pennybridge by the way)but after a few listen, I must say that HFH is a pretty good record, even if it's slow and the first 3 albums were better.
