Bouncing Souls / Bayside / Broadway Callslive in Chicago (2009)Chunksaah Records Reviewer Rating: Contributed by: Uncle_Leo (others by this writer | submit your own) Published on November 10th 2009
Broadway Calls' new album, Good Views, Bad News, has been one of my more pleasant discoveries of this year. All I had previously heard of them was their split with Teenage Bottlerocket a few years back. Personally, I liked their side better than TBR’s. They are more than just another pop-punk band. They have a harder drive to their vocals and guitar playing that keeps them from being lumped in with every other band in that category. Based on their new album alone, I had a good feeling about seeing them live. Simply put, Broadway Calls are awesome live. I had no idea how well they took their recorded material to the stage. Songs like “Be All You Can’t Be” and “Basement Royalty” really highlight the band’s strength in their dual vocals. What was especially nice about seeing these guys was that their intensity seemed completely genuine. Only a small handful of people seemed to have heard them before, but by the time their set ended, I got the impression that they earned themselves plenty of new fans. [Pictures]

And commenting on this specific show from Chicago: "Bayside are really a great band that gets a lot of shit on here from people who would probably actually really like them" Still bummed that Broadway Calls didn't play "Be All That You Can't Be" at the Fest. I mean, come on! Dude, seriously, you had no idea who the Bouncing Souls were? I dislike how people don't range out when it comes to genre. Although there are a lot of bands out there that are not good artist or artist at all, some bands are pretty good. I'm 20 years of age and I am a huge Bayside fan. I know there are 15 year old kids singing along with me, but Bayside are true artist; lyrically and as musicians. I must admit, I did buy my ticket wanting to see Broadway Calls and Bayside with no idea who Bouncing Souls were, but i fell in love with their energy. People have start acknowledgement music in its totality. Stop discriminating against genres; music is music if its god music. (I was one of the 3 Broadway Calls fans singing along. Totally bragging.) Wish I could have seen this in Madison since the Bouncing Souls are awesome and they were at the first punk concert I went to, oh so many years ago. Well, only 10 years ago on the Punkorama tour with Dropkick Murphys, Dwarves, and the Distillers. Also caught this in Denver. Broadway Calls were ok, nothing great. Not a huge Bayside fan but they were fucking ON FIRE. The Souls were great, as I was expecting. i had so much fun at this show in denver These guys are brilliant, how I spent still gives me chills when I listen to it, The Souls were at the top of their game with that one, saw em with Strike Anywhere a few years back in DC, good grief what a show-oldpunker- It was Mommy Can I Go Out and Kill Tonight. Just running your eye down the setlist is a great reminder of what a legendary band the souls are 'Mommy' and 'Hybrid' on the photo of the setlist - was that Social D's 'Mommy's Little Monster' and 'Hybrid Moments' by the Misfits? ooooh, pictures! Intentionally missed Bayside, therefore I also missed Broadway Calls. | Features
