This third installment of Traffic Street's Dangerous Intersections 4-way split series features some okay tracks and some way better ones.

The Closet Fairies start things with one of the better tracks on the 7". It's actually a cover of the Diamond Thongs' "SKUMPUNK," and it's a real solid and caustic, punky hardcore-ish cut. I'm pretty sure this isn't what the band normally sound like, but if they went with this style more often, I'd be a fan.

Apocaplyse Meow follow with a pretty basic west coast-styled pop-punk number in "Babies Got It Made"; with lines like "I just wanna laugh and scream. I want drool on my chin and food on my face.," you might resonate with the band's nostalgic yearning, or just maybe dismiss it as silly pap. The song's musically okay -- not anything too special.

The Dopamines kick off Side 2 with what's easily my favorite song on the record. I've never heard these guys prior, but "My Future's So Bright, I Have to Wear Night Vision Goggles" is just simply an excellent pop-punk song. Particularly, it's probably the vocals, which are smooth and punchy and somewhat refreshing considering the pop-punk rehashing of recent years. Some might draw a Copyrights comparison, but I think it sounds more like Green Day's "Going to Pasalacqua" with modern production and a hardcore energy.

Todd Congelliere closes it with a three-year-old song called "Channel 11." It's super hard to describe -- maybe anarcho-sounding but cheeky folk-punk with a bizarro indie pop demeanor? I'm not too huge on it. Sarcastically or otherwise it says "Emotronic" in his MySpace genres; I suppose that's accurate.

Expect reviews of IV and V forthcoming.

todd congelliere is todd from toys that kill. between the above description and that little fact, that should give you a pretty good idea of what his song on this record sounds like.

Traffic Street is sturning out pretty rad, and IV just might be the best one so far.

I really dig the latest installment of this series, particularly because it introduced me to the Legendary San Diego Chargers. I hope those guys come out with a real-deal full-length soon. Also, the AJJ reggae Billy Joel cover is pretty amusing.

Traffic Street is turning out to be a great label. I should pick up all of these.
