When you take Saves The Day, Thursday, Dashboard Confessional, and Thrice you get a band called Taking Back Sunday. I hear this way too often, but the truth is everyone that claims this is hitting the spot right on. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
loved it when i was 14, still love it 7 years later. John Nolan John Nolan John Nolan Score is for the album. Taking back sunday prettty much kickass. Good album, horrible review. hay its sammyy i wanted to say that this cd is awsome and i really like taking back sundays msic not the best but really good love the band but i like where you want to be better then this one. even though this was the first they did really well. i didn't like the singers hair style back then though Alright...This CD is soooooo fucking sweeet! I love it...Its one of the only CD's I've bought in a while that theres not a bad song on it! The New Album is titled "Angles and Airwaves" and is expected early '06. Enjoy. Tell All Your Friends is a rad album. Taking Back Sunday is a talented band and the lyrics are just simply amazing. I must admit that TBS second album Where You Want To Be isn't as good as the first but has equally good songs on it. I'd just like to make a note that in the MTVmo war between Brand New and TBS...Seventy Times Seven obviously kicked the ever-loving shit out of There's No "I" In Team. You people have no life and are fuckinw patethic, I like harcore emo. alot. so this album is so badass and hardcore. So much passion and anger and confusion and resolution. Scream it, dont say it. Haters are fucks. I would have to agree with this review, except, I think Tell All Your Friends only gets better with each listen. There are so many layers to each song that I notice something new to love every time. this album is great thats all there is to say. I finally got to see TBS a couple of weeks ago live......... just saw taking back sunday live yesterday & got to meet them. these guys are seriously pretty cool. plus they sound great live. they played a song off their new album and sounds like its gonna be a good follow up to this. as for the brand new thing, i think it makes it a little interesting to know that the things they sing about are real for them. as for originalitiy.. i personally think this is quite original & you know, every band has its influences.. its how they use them that make them unique. yeah!!! taking back sunday!!! wooooooo!!! they better get ready to take over the world!!! they are that good!!!! Plowro wants to fuck his sister! i no im stupid but im bored:( Plowro wants to fuck his sister! i no im stupid but im bored:( The singers voice reminds of the voice from the band assorted jelly beans. Notice when John sings the brand new lyrics, the lead singer yells "That's Right, Jesse!" over and over. This is def. an awesome album. Everyone has a song that they can relate to..and i love the diversity of all the songs of how they all sound completely different. they truly are a great band. There is not one song on the cd you wont like. Great band! Buy 'Tell all your Friends as soon as you can! this album is so amazing. it has a song to fit everyone's point in there life right now. u can listen to the songs over and over..and they will never get old. this band kicks so much ass. everyone already knows that. Too let you all know, TBS sings a part of Brand New's song "Seventy X's Seven" in their song "There Is No "I" In Team"... listen to both carefully and see you will... Genius... pure pure genius (TBS) ehhh, this album aint bad. i mean i can't listen to that whiny emo voice for too long or else it gets too annoying. but these boys mesh it out well. the best song has to be head club. great way to finish up the song... peace The older Taking Back Sunday songs have a different voice for a good reason. There was a different singer, but he has left the band and now Adam has moved from bass guitar to vocals. TBS doesn' play those songs anymore because the previous singer doesn't want them to be played anymore. And his wishes will be respected. So "We'll write our own"...AND if you don't know something dont say anything. If I hear one more person say Jesse is a girl...I just dont know what will happen..."Wrote a message on MY pillow that says Jesse stay asleep in bed"... At this point all I really care about is Taking Back Sunday. Fuck my bills, school, and my sister. Taking Back Sunday is bliss. well..id just like to say..see them live..and if u dont fall in love with them..there is something wrong with you. k bye :) i stumbled upon these guys on a sampler and immediatley bought the cd. the vocals are amazing and every song is good. lyrics are so awesome. WTF! im a douchebag i meant hooked up with jesses girl hah It was john...not adam. John the guitarrist for Taking Back Sunday and Jesse, the singer of Brand New used to be best friends, until John hooked up with jesse... thats where the songs No I in Team and seventy times 7 came from... No I in team is Johns view of the situation, and seventy times 7 is Jesses view. HD313 It's a refreshing site to the punk world. It's one of the few albums that I no a poser would not get and that's why I like it so much. taking back sunday is damn good, i saw them in concert with brand new and rufio, rufio was awesome, and taking back sunday was amazing, i didnt stick around to see brand new, but if you like these guys- go see them in concert. this cd kicks ass. and if your trying to say that theyre pop...you really need to get your ears checked..tbs isnt pop. and saves the day is pretty good too. My favorite album of the year by far. My favorite ever? Quite possibly. From the lyrics to the layered vocals, it's gushes originality. I don't know how any of you can say that their sound isn't original because I have never heard anything like it. I'd call it a mix of pop punk and hardcore emo, whatever it is it sounds pretty damn good. what is wrong with you people!!! really tbones you fucking idiot!! there not new or what ever you sid eddie reyes who is in the band was in some of the most influential bands ever!! mind over matter inside , movielife you dumb fuck!! get your facts right.. he's been doing this music for umm oh let see since i was a kid.. you people need to get your facts right!! umm they've existed before brand new umm jesse lacey was there first bassist and um edd ie was the movielife let alone every other band you guys probleby listened to!! idiot stupid i have no clue ima new jack from the midle of now where ass holes!!! get a clue .. then review it.. and tbone your a fucking idot.. you suck your taste sucks and you know shit.. go back to being a metalhead which you where like um two yrs ago new jack fake!!!fuck!! this album rules my world and your world.. to be honest, i think this may be my favorite album of 2002 thusfar. its just awesome. it basically sounds like a thursday/old saves the day hybrid, so if u like those bands check it. its just amazing. To be quite honest, I really don't care what everyone says about this band. They sound like The Stryder, Saves the Day, Thursday? They lack originality? Well look at the bands you claim they sound like... are they so original? No, they're not. The fact of the matter is: with all the music coming out right now, everyone is in the same genre. Emo/Punk/Hardcore... it's all the same, however not every band like TBS combines all of these together, to make one of the best Cd's I've hear in a while. The music is great and the switching between vocals is something that I rarely hear. It's catchy and melodic, yet hard at the same time and every song is different. To eveyone who claims they lack originality, look at who you're comparing them to and do a little research, you'll be suprised how original they actually are. And about some connection between them and Brand New... who cares? The CD's great and I could care less about some small argument between two people you all wish you were. to whoever said the guy from brand new writes a lot of songs about a girl named jess, the guys name is jess. when he writes stuff like "jesse just stay in bed..." hes writing what the girl said about/to him. haha!!!! got ya there!!! This is the best album of 2002 along with Thrice and Recover. It is original. The layering of vocals and the break downs are just unbelievable...a must have! Best CD for me since I bought Saves the Day back in June. My favorite line in the song You're so Last Summer when it says...."You could slit my throat and with my one last gasping breath I'd apologize for bleeding on your shirt. Its pathetic." Its a great song and a great album. the best song is "ghost man on third" so far so good..i'll submit a review in a week or so... ok...the deal is adam made out with jesses girlfriend at a party when he was drunk. that is specifically what the song is about. and i know this because i heard it straight from jesse laceys mouth. don't doubt what you don't know. How is the song seventy times 7 talking about Adam from Taking Back Sunday. You people are fucking idiots. In the song one of the lyrics is "Jesse just stay in bed, I hope you choke and die." Notice how its about a past girl in his life dumbasses. Now those may not be the lyrics exactly how they are but the lead singer for Brand New sings about a girl named Jess in a lot of his songs. I dont think your right. God. Now, while I do infact like this band. I feel that most of the arguments here are very bland. Even though this is a good record, originality lacks. To the people that like this record, don't keep saying that this is very original, because it is not. The only thing you guys are doing is diluting your argument. Just because something is good does not mean it is new. I agree, that even though this record is well recieved, it will not be remembered. The people who are claming originality are the kids who just found emo and pop/punk. Try listening to other branches of punk, as well as other punk bands, then pick the influences out yourself. Taking Back Sunday is a recycled band. Sorry to burst the bubble. for people noticing the connection between brand new and tbs, jesse wrote the song seventy times 7 about adam from tbs. there's no i in team was written as a response. jesse and adam from brand new and tbs respectively were at one time best friends. I was listening to this cd yesterday, and its amazing. But i did notice the brand new/tbs connection when in the back ground he says There's a story between TBS and Brand New which is seen in the lyrics to both songs(Theres No I in Team and Seventy Times 7). To the person below me: tbones- Scott, Ignore the score because I havent listened to the album, though I do plan on buying it soon. I just felt like making some comments. For the person that asked, to why did I buy this. I got it to review for my zine. Everyone seems very defensive about this cd, and I can understand that a lot of people like it, and that's cool...it's the sound right now. But an album like this, which yes is good for its genre and time, will wind up being very forgettable in the long run. The question I pose to you is this: Are we too loose when we just always throw around that this cd or that cd is "great" or the "best of 2002". This rock, emo, pop whatever genre you want to call it...it's originality is fading fast, and all these bands are simply blending together. To the guy below me: what the fuck is wrong with you all? you all have no idea what good music is. my friend i'm from long island and i've been a fan of these guys for about a year, and all i can say is this band sounds nothing like saves the day, the stryder, or whoever else you compared them to. they have their own sound, and to be honest with you i think they're one of the most original band i had ever heard in a long time. these guys are the coolest guys to talk to at shows, and they worked really hard to get to where they are today, so if i were you i wouldn't be so quick to judge this band. i bet you just only listened to "cute without the e" mp3 from victory records website and judged them by that one song only. just go out and buy the whole album, and trust me once you really listen "tell all your friends" you won't be able to stop listening to these guys for a long time. i noticed that too, but that is cool as hell, and that is by far the best song on the cd. I got word that all those guys are best friends, real close. Also if you notice in the thank you list, they thank most of the guys from brand new by name personally, jesse is somewhere right at top. both are such awesome bands, great to see them both doing well. Anyone notice how on "There's No 'I' In Team" they rip off lyrics from Brand New's "Seven Times Seventy-Seven?" That's pretty funny... It's a good cd. Everythings pretty solidly produced, but really....can't we get something a little more original? Sure I enjoy parts of it, but I prefer the intro to "This is not a love song" more when it's played by Juliana Theory.....And yes, they were around before Brand New. No,they did not sound like this at all. TO TBONES: Has anyone on here heard any of the old taking back sunday material? It sounds a whole heck of a lot differnt. The lead singer actually has a deeper and scruffer voice. The music is also a lot darker, way less poppy. That's what i expected when i bought this, but I got something else... After a few listens though, and after getting over the carbon copied voice of the dude from The Stryder, I began to actually enjoy this album. Not perfect, but has some really high points. "This is me with the words on the tip of my tounge, with my eyes down the scope of a barrel of a gun."- Awesome lyric. Worth owning.. But the lead singer indeed sounds JUST like THE STRYDER, not Saves the Day as much. Food for thought Good review but i have to say i like brand new better though because they have more of an edge. This cd is so freaking awesome. Its worth the money for sure. EVERYONE BUY THIS ALBUM. out of line. this album puts everyone to shame. I was intending to buy this, but after hearing it, I ended up borrowing it. It was really muddled, and didnt stand out amongst its peers, who tend to not stand out either, but beggars cant be choosers. I got a copy of "Tell all your Friends" in the mail a couple of weeks back and even before I put the disc in, I knew what I was going to get. Pre-packaged nonsense that sounds like a mix of other bands. Have things gotten so boring in the "punk" world that we happily praise bands for sounding like a mix of other popular bands? Where's the originality? Where's the danger? Where's the fun in that? This is NOT a bad cd, but it has nothing to set itself apart. Now not every cd needs to be mindblowing but I mean when does it all end? If everyone just accepts all the shit that these bands put out, who does it hurt? Not them, because your eating their shit up and buying the t-shirts. It's the musical output that suffers. If we settle for mediocrity, then what is there ever going to be to look foward to. I've never heard the cd, & I'd like to. But I hope I never hear the word "heartcore" again. i dig this CD. at first i thought they were saves the day copy cats, but the more i listen to it, the stronger i thought the disc was. especially the first couple of songs. Good stuff , easily worth the 13 or 14 bucks-oldpunker- I just bought this cd yesterday, not really knowing what to expect. While I must agree that the CD isn't exactly original, it is interestingly different. I can understand the comparison to Thursday... I'm not sure what else to say exactly, the CD is pretty good, the quality is good, the lyrics are good, and the band's overall sound is good. I would reccomend buying this CD if you are a Thursday fan, or a fan of "heart-core" (har har I'm a funny guy)...(sorry I just wanted to use that word) Anyways, yea, good CD... pretty good review, could've focused a bit more on each song, but that's ok. For the comment below me, saying he's trying to sound like the guy from Brand New.....I just had to add my comment, both bands are from the same exact area and Taking Back Sunday were there first...so you figure whose ripping who off I actually do like this album, but it's super derivative. One singer seems like he's trying desperately to sound like Chris Conley while the other one impersonates the high pitched guy from Brand New. Basically, the kids from the New York suburbs have been putting out good emo for the last few years, and Taking Back Sunday joined the club by borrowing heavily from earlier local bands: Saves the Day, Thursday, The Movielife, Brand New. Not bad, but not original. |
