So about a month ago I heard that the surfers were going to release their new album "Unconsciously Confined."

I've been a fan of this band for a long time. I live in Denmark so I live kinda close to them and I have met them a few times. Nice guys by the way.

The band started out by playing really fast skate punk but as the years have passed their style has changed into slower political punk.

A lot of people were quite dissapointed with the previous release "fragments and fractions" because the record presented a new and slower style. I was a little dissapointed too (although the songs were good, something was missing, Maybe a better recording!).

With Rodrigo (one of the best punk drummers along with Jordan and Travis Barker) (I don't give a fuck if you hate blink, he's still quite good) away from the drums set I had lost a little faith in the band. Anyways I knew the band would somehow pull through.

On "U.C." the surfers are still showing off that style. This however doesn't have to be a negative thing. There's more of a message in the songs. Talentwise both lyrically and musically this band is far better than Millencolin in my opinion.

The album has fast songs, slow songs, harder songs and even poppier songs like "pecan pie".

What can I say? The songs are good. They however seem sometimes to be going nowhere. Most of the songs are 1½ min long which makes a 13 song album quite short. I just wish they would do something more with their songs.

The song "PC" is in my opinion the best track on the record. It's about racism and being a immigrant myself i can really relate to it. Another great song is "Aim to please" which is more of a explaination of why SS are not playing their old style anymore.

In the end I would like to say that this record is worth buying. However it requires that you're able to listen to the band without expecting to hear another "hero of our time". The album won't get top score because it does lack more powerful songs and a little more heart.

    but life on a plate was so good too bad everything else doesnt compare

    This album is great, however, it's something I can't uust listen to over and over again without getting a bit bored. One thing that always has annoyed me about political punk is that it all seems the same, and in the case of the Satanic Surfers, it basically is. However, just listen to this music and you can see why it's worth the buy. The Surfers have the best guitar chords I've ever heard, and they pull them off with such ease that it is amazing. However, the two best examples of that, "Worn Out Words" and "What Ever", aren't on this album. But "Aim to Please" is a great song, PC is also great, State of Conformity is amazing, and Thoughts, Words, Actions is also worth taking a listen to. However, the best song on this album is Pecan Pie. Great song, and it deviates from the usual Satanic formula, but it is simply amazing.

    they sound like millencolin now? what?

    Did you even hear the last album? Fragments and fractions sounds nothing like typical socal punk that millencolin play. it was varied and nicely underproduced.

    The only detraction to this album is a lack of nonpolitical songs like "lean onto you" or "together" on the last two albums. Otherwise, golden and quality. European bands always do it right.

    this album is'nt out in my country yet (new zealand) but i heard there last effort and it was nothing short of piss poor! going no where fast is one of the best skate punk albums ever produced! the fact the band now sounds like millencolin (one of the most overated pretentious bands i have ever heard!) says alot for believing in what you do and speak for. but i still wanna hear this effort in the hope it is as fast and edgey as there previous efforts.

    This is a good album. Sure, they might have sounded differently in the past, but jeez people havent you gotten it yet!!! Artists change! ALL artists change! Deal with it! The fourth track is amazing, and sure the album is short, but i dont expect anything less from these guys.

    I think this is a great album. Every one one of the Surfers' albums has a unique sound, and this is no different. I wouldn't want another "hero of our time" anyway. If anything, I'd want another "motor inn" or "going nowhere fast". Both those albums were amazing. In my mind, this one ranks third behind those 2.

    My only complaint is the length. But then again, it's about as long as "fragments" and "nowhere fast".

    No fun at all broke up,Refused broke up,
    59 times the pain became shitty and the broke up.Millencolin always sucked ass.
    Satanic surfers are moving to the direction in which i don't like.Still a good album, but I still consider Adhesive as the best Swedish punk band.

    The sound of the instruments and voice on this CD is incredibly clean! The songs are pretty good. This band is the sound that the likes of Slick Shoes, Unwritten Law, Ten Foot Pole, Pulley, and Zero Down use
