Shelved New Amsterdams EP posted for download; Pryor discusses Get Up Kids breakup

The New Amsterdams, which notably includes Matt Pryor of the Get Up Kids, has posted the entirety of their Killed or Cured EP for free download.

In his explanation for the release, Pryor explains a bit about his reasons for leaving the Get Up Kids, the rationale for the free release and future plans for the quartet of musicians that now makes up the New Amsterdams:

During [the Guilt Show tour] I started to get more and more down. I really wasn't happy touring and I felt like I couldn't tell anyone. The songs that I was writing during that period were especially bleak. The song "Drinking In The Afternoon" was written and recorded in my hotel room in Osaka, Japan on that tour. That was the day before I quit the band. It didn't go very well. That was a lonely place for me.

According to Pryor, the original plan for the EP was to "[do] a record that was a potluck of musicians. I had hoped to put a different band together for each song.." Over the course of the two years that followed, due to demands of the Get Up Kids, and the addition of more musicians to what was previously a solo project, Matt explains that "we started writing new stuff together. The songs we started writing were so different than the "record" that I had completed. It made me start to question the record that was slated for release in the fall."
