Mastodon preps two new releases for next year

Relapse Records artist Mastodon are prepping two new releases for early next year. The first is a collection of remixed and remastered tracks from their first-ever recording session called Call of the Mastodon. It is set to be released in North America on February 7th, and January 30th in Europe.

Comprised of the first nine tracks the young quartet had ever written, Call of the Mastodon is an audio document of a then-new band finding its own space. Sanders describes Call of the Mastodon as "the first real monster we ever created. It's the original beast laid to tape complete with the dirt and drive."

A DVD will follow on February 21st in North America and February 28th in Europe. The DVD, entitled The Workhorse Chronicles, and will feature "in-depth interviews with each band member, candid behind-the-scenes
shots from the band's personal video archives and a career spanning range of live performances - including rare footage of the band in their initial form as a five piece
".

Bassist Troy Sanders comments, "We had been wanting to do a DVD for awhile, and figured that with all that has happened now would be the right time to document our early years. Consider it [the DVD] an invitation to walk the paths we've traveled and see what lies ahead".

Both follow up their album Leviathan, released last year.
