Dead Boys plan shows, recording

The Dead Boys have announced a week's worth of dates in Canada beginning in May, with stops in Montreal, Quebec as well as Toronto, London and Hamilton in Ontario. Following that however, the band plans to enter a studio to begin recording some new material.

Guitarist Cheetah Chrome explained to Billboard:

We're going to do a couple of long rehearsals, and then for a couple of days, we're going to record things -- just mess around in the studio and see what we come up with. We have no idea what to expect from it, but we figure we'll run some ideas around at soundchecks, block out 10 hours and see what we've got at the end of the day.

Since the death of frontman Stiv Bators, the band had split vocal duties between Chrome and second guitarist Jimmy Zero. The band stresses that they cannot replace Stiv, and are "dodgy" about using The Dead Boys, but content that "it's kind of what we're stuck with."

Chrome is also working on resurrecting another group, Ohio proto-punk act Rocket From The Tombs, which also includes Pere Ubu singer David Thomas and Television guitarist Richard Lloyd.

The renewed interest in recording began after last year's 30th anniversary shows which were preceded by only a handful of reunions since the band split in 1979 and Bators died in 1990.

On September 18th, 2004 the original members of the Dead Boys reunited for the first time at the Beachland and again on August 28th, 2006 for a Save CBGBs benefit concert. The legendary band released Young Loud and Snotty in 1977.
