John Doe of X and the Sadies collaborate on "Country Club"

Exclaim is reporting that X frontman John Doe will collaborate with Toronto alt-country act the Sadies on an upcoming record. The Yep Roc Records released project will be titled Country Club and will feature the pairing taking on classic country tunes along with new originals. It's expected in stores on April 14th. Doe commented:

Country Club is the result of a drunken promise or threat I made to Travis and Dallas [Good, of the Sadies] the first night we played together in Toronto... These happen all the time but it's rare that anyone remembers them the morning after, let alone follows through and makes it a reality. I'm really glad we did.

The album features reworkings of songs by Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash. It will feature guest appearances by Ottawa's Kathleen Edwards, Blue Rodeo's Bob Egan and several other members of the Good family. X's Exene Cervenka shares a writing credit on one of the new originals. Click below for the track listing.

The Sadies last released New Seasons in 2007. Doe released A Year In The Wilderness the same year.
