A linguistics professor explains the "pop-punk" vocal

In one of the weirder stories to combine pop-punk, linguistics, Lookout Records and Blink-182, Atlas Obscura asked a Stanford professor about the evolution of the "punk" vocal style attributed to everyone from Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols to Blink-182, Avril Lavigne, and The Offspring.
In short, the professor explains why "singers from all over California had influenced singers from as far afield as Minnesota, Ontario, Maryland, and South Florida." Check it out here.
