Boots Riley's film picks up distribution deal

Boots Riley of The Coup recently debuted his film Sorry to Bother You at Sundance. The films follows a black telemarketer, played by Lakeith Stanfield, who begins to get unprecedented success when, after the advice of a co-worker played by Danny Glover, he starts to speak more "white." The film then morphs into the world of magical realism. The film has just been sold to a distributor. Annapurna films picked up the film for a reported seven figure deal. Riley was part of the 2016 Sundance Director's lab. Founded by Megan Ellison seven years ago, Annapurna previously developed and/or distributed four Best Picture Oscar nominees: “Zero Dark Thirty,” “American Hustle,” “Her,” and “Phantom Thread.” The film is expected to have wide distribtuion later this year.
