Break-ups: Daycare Swindlers (1997-2004)

Daycare Swindlers are calling it quits. Here's a selection of the message posted on their website:

When the five of us got together 7 years ago, we knew that we'd caught lightning in a jar and we've fought long and hard to keep it there for as long as we could. But real life - our jobs, our families, our hearing and our tolerance for wicked hangovers - intervened and forced our hand. There is no dramatic fallout, no wounds that won't heal and no Behind the Music moments. We're still so close that it borders on the homoerotic. There is just the reality that we cannot continue on this level forever and we want to go out at the top of our game before we make a smooth jazz album or start playing weddings and bar mitzvahs for extra cash.

The band will play all of their scheduled shows and release one final album. Their last show will be in either late June or early July, depending on when the record is finished. Click below for the full post.

The rumor mill has been working double time for the past few weeks and we felt it was time to come clean about the future of the Daycare Swindlers. After a lot of emotional debate, we’ve decided to call it a day. When the five of us got together 7 years ago, we knew that we’d caught lightning in a jar and we’ve fought long and hard to keep it there for as long as we could. But real life - our jobs, our families, our hearing and our tolerance for wicked hangovers - intervened and forced our hand. There is no dramatic fallout, no wounds that won’t heal and no Behind the Music moments. We’re still so close that it borders on the homoerotic. There is just the reality that we cannot continue on this level forever and we want to go out at the top of our game before we make a smooth jazz album or start playing weddings and bar mitzvahs for extra cash. We will play the rest of the shows on our schedule and we’re putting out one last album. Our very last show will be in late June or early July - depending on when we get the record finished. The last show - in true retarded Swindler fashion - will also be the record release for The Morning After.

We feel it’s very important to thank all the people who stuck by us for all these years and rallied around the cause. We made life pretty hard for our wives and girlfriends and bosses as we tried to spread the word. But at the end of the day it’s the fans who kept coming out, year after year, that made it all worth it and so unforgettable. We’re good with faces but bad with names so we can’t possibly name all of the diehards, but you know who you are…

Being in a band lets you meet so many amazing people and lets you bear witness to a lot of amazing music. Hundreds and hundreds of shows and five albums later, we wouldn’t change a second of it… okay, that’s bullshit, we’d change a whole bunch of seconds - but the big picture, still way fucking worth it. So, thank you for your support and being perfect year after year. Please make it out to the last few shows because we’d really like to see everybody one last time.
