The Queers

Later Days And Better Lays (1999)

Scott Heisel

As I understand from the liner notes, this is a grouping of the Queers' first recording session coupled with a few old 7"s, demos, and the like. It's interesting, but not innovative. All the recording session songs have been left as they were, with no polishing at all, which gives it that famous rough Queers sound, but it's nothing we haven't heard before. There are also some alternate versions of songs on here with different words, vocals, etc. (i.e. I Can't Get Over You, Born To Do Dishes, No Tit), which makes this more of a die-hard collectors' item than anything else. For some odd reason, there's about 5 minutes of dead space after the last song, and then the CD ends. Go fig.

Anyway, the CD does have some great songs on it, from the opening shout of "Granola Head" to the rough version of "Too Many Twinkies," but it's nothing you haven't heard before.
