Gerard Way

Hesitant Alien (2014)

Badlemon

Gerard Way came back into music with a pretty good record.

If your expecting this record to sound like MCR, ditch those expectations. Because Hesitant Alien isn't that at all.

Theres lots of fuzz rock and brit pop influence here. Gerard's vocals are buried behind guitars.

You can't really stick this album into a certain genera, and i think thats what Gerard wanted to celebrate. You can definitely hear the corporate control here as he is still with Warner Bros. Not to say the songs arn't good though, brother is a great song, but its definitely pop-ish. This album does have pop influence all around, there is mainstream influence.

However there are sounds on here that blow your mind. theres so many levels to guitars, saxophones. there's alot of musical influence here from the 70's and 80's. It's like you took all these different bands from that period and stuck them in a blender. It's a record you can listen to and hear something different every time. I don't understand why since this guy is probably a multi-millionare by now, why he wouldnt go make an album without corporate influence. but two-each-their-own i guess.

It also bothered me Gerard titled this album as only himself, as he had alot of help on this album. He played some guitars and sung. But there are many people working on this album, it's not entirely his own creation. He definitely wasn't the only one in the studio.

Overall, this is a pretty great record. It's really fun. It's not made to appeal to angsty emo teens. I do recommend giving it a listen as it's really a different creation.
