Clearview Kills

Wrap This Around Your Neck [reissue] (2006)

Brian Shultz

Awesome, I always wanted the latest 2nd-rate Thursday clone to incorporate metalcore influences!

Wait, what's that you say, Clearview Kills? You rip off 2 different Thursday songs in your shittily constructed intro track, "No Sympathy for a Fallen Angel?" Yes, you're right! I can hear moments of the exact guitar structure of both "I Am the Killer" AND "Autobiography of a Nation!" Good work!

And then you pretty much completely rip off the vocal patterns from any given song on This Day Forward's In Response on "Goodnight," ultimately failing to incorporate any original flavor of your own while you include half-hearted "hey!"s and dumb-as-nails breakdown riffs. "Sleep With the Lights On?" Absoultely loving the spoken word bit that sounds like it was straight out of A Static Lullaby's And Don't Forget to Breathe, for real dudes.

And your lyrics! Oh my! These are as refreshing as the use of my blatant sarcasm! The supremely cinematic scene is surely set in "Lost and Lonely," definitely worth blockquoting for:

I'll take my weapon of choice, hide it on the shelf above your bed
She said the window I want you
And I'll take some string, tie you up so I can watch you bleed
Your heart, this time I swear you'll die

Thanks for bringing back this subject matter into the fold, Clearview Kills, because it totally sucks that bands like Boys Night Out realized how childish and, from some angles, misogynistic it is.

And that one vocalist who sings in that sort of gravelly bellow? Hands down, the Luciano Pavarotti of our generation.

But the chorus in "The Stereo?" So playful! Thank the gods of nü-emo it lacks any substance whatsoever! And that you guys sound sloppy as fuck when those jangly chords come in, completely fucking the song up and making it all the more hilarious!

I think you guys say it best in "Make Up:" "So forget all these cliché melodies." I'll be sure to heed to this advice!
