Nirvana boxed set due in November

Billboard is reporting that Universal will release a three CD boxed set from Nirvana on November 23rd. Limited editions of the release will include a DVD that includes footage of the band playing at a 1987 house party. No track list has been announced yet but the set is expected to contain a wealth of previously unreleased material. Pitchfork has some interesting speculations online in regards to the content.

This set was originally scheduled for a Christmas 2001 release to coincide with the 10 year anniversary Nevermind, however Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic's efforts were thwarted by a very public legal battle with Cobain's widow Courtney Love.

Expect the "Heart-Shaped boxset" b-sides, the "Outcestiside" tracks, and pretty much everything on "B-Side Themselves." I'm stoked, because bootleg cd's suck.

Well you can't expect all that if it's only going to be 3 CD's. I'm no Nirvana expert but seems to me a proper box set should be more like 10 CD's with all the material that's out there. :/

i think that the most complete bside collection is the "outcestiside" series. that is 6 cds and i'm sure if you cut out all of the live stuff and the throw away songs (like "beans"), you could shave it down to three.

half the people who claim that nirvana is overrated weren't even over the age of 10 when the exploded onto the music stream. yes,they borrowed a lot from predecessors, but they sure as hell could write awesome songs, and they never claimed to be anymore than what they were.

Nirvana's importance is more about what they brought along with them. Imagine if ALL the kids you know who love Britney and Justin and Beyonce heard one punk album and decided the very next day that everything they had been listening to previously was shit. And then that same band who changed their opinion said, "Hey, here's a whole list of bands that you've never heard of that you might like, too." Nirvana mattered because one day kids were listening to Warrant and Skid Row and the next day they were listening to The Pixies and Sonic Youth. You can bitch about how their popularity led to mall punk and how Cobain's suicide led to a backlash that brought all the bubblegum acts back, but for a few minutes there, you could turn on the radio or the tv and there'd be some cool shit on.

Complete truth be told, if it wasn't for nirvana, I wouldn't be sitting here wearing a crass shirt right now (spare me all the anti-crass posts). I would probably still be sitting here with my long hair and my van halen and motley crue records. I don't listen to just one type of music, but before nirvana I did. Many people on this site have referred to green day and blink as "gateway" bands who open up the doors so that kids can be exposed to othe genres. To me, nirvana was that. Today, maybe they seem pretentious, but if you look at the music scene when nirvana broke big, you would understand more. We had Michael Jackson (who nirvana knocked out of the numbe one albums slot, Warrant, GNR (You can't tell me that Kurt was moe pretentious than Axl), Metallica etc. Nivana's "Nevermind" did for rock music the same thing that Dre's "The Chronic" did for hip-hop, it s

Well, the shirt itself was not made made, but she just took some gel-medium and a plain black t-shirt and made a crass shirt out of it, it's not one of the hot topic or interpunk shirts or something. But when you think about it, all revolutionary ideas and commodities are marketable, after all akpress sells food not bombs t-shirts for christ's sake!

Congrats, you have both a Germs record and bunch of DC Dischord stuff and automatically you think you know everything about a bands roots. I'm so sick and tired of people saying that, "This band ripped of these guys" and so on. Let's see, at some point every band has taken an idea from a band that they consider their roots, idols, etc., and uses it in their own music. Thats what happens people. Its been that way since day one and will always be like that. Try and find any musician that has never based any music they have done off of another band. My guess is that you will not be able to. Oh, and by the way, you may have that Germs album and think Nirvana sounds like that, but maybe you should listen to some Pixies, The Melvins, and Nirvanas comtemporaries and you'd get a much better idea of where their music comes from.
