Update: In light of the lack of details, I've changed this to 'apparently' rather than 'officially' until a statement from the band arrives.
Glassjaw has apparently called it a day. On their website, the band has announced their breakup, though no explanation is given. Beyond the "RIP Glassjaw," the band has also cancelled their December dates which had been scheduled with a temporary lineup.

Funniest going away message ever. It's like they were just waiting for a fourth musician to die before announcing it. -Scott

No surprise, Palumbo is obviously more interested in Head Automatica. The future is still bright for them.
Someone (December 9, 2004)
ughhhh, this was very AP.net of you guys there is nothing official about this, and glassjaw has not broken up
Someone (December 9, 2004)
ill take two pieces of french toast, with egg in between....soaked in maple syrup
Someone (December 9, 2004)
Their way of announcing their break-up was the epitome of jackassery. I am now in love with Glassjaw for it. Rob.

This is shit. Seriously. Even though I maybe haven't really listened to GJ in a while, they still stood as a sort of "gateway" band for me a few years ago, that opened doors to several other artists I may not have been able to tolerate had it not been for GJ slightly ushering me into learning what hardcore (in any form) was. Send me all the stupid, knee-jerk, "fuck you", "Glassjaw sucks" comments you want, but my opinion still stands.
Someone (December 9, 2004)
wow, they have a link to their merch on the main page, hoping to cash in on the inevitable cash flow that will come with their break up. everyone bootleg a t-shirt so beck can't get a dollar to feed his twinkie habit.
Someone (December 9, 2004)
I feel bad that you guys broke up but hey, all good things must come to an end. So..since some of you have extra time on your hands, would you like to start a band? I can play something else than the drums if I have too. Please guys...i'm fucking starving and my dog needs money for his heartworm pills. Signed, Alex Pappas
Someone (December 9, 2004)
This seems a bit speculative at this point doesn't it? Is it possible the "R.I.P Glassjaw" is written towards Biggie, Tupac, ODB and Dime and signed "Glassjaw"?
Someone (December 9, 2004)
Kinda depressing. To everyone who things they aren't done, I remember reading somewhere not too long ago that half of the band didn't even know about the show on the 26th and they found out about it from the internet. they were pissed and said they they weren't in the band anymore. It was either here, AP, or another random punk news site, but the article is out there somewhere. P.S. I saw Head Automatica on tour w/ Thursday and The Bronx and they blew. Big downgrade.
Someone (December 9, 2004)
Sucks about Glassjaw. Has anyone heard any songs off the new "The Falcon" EP? has been leaked? I want to hear it bad!
Someone (December 9, 2004)
my apologies in advance to anyone who liked them, BUT.....Glassjaw sucked ass. they were skinny whiny pussies who bought their gear at walmart but their clothes at j crew. hearing glassjaw compares to hearing rusty carpet nails on a blackboard...attached directly to my eardrum. structurally, their songs just didnt make sense. i mean i know they thought they were hardcore and all that, but shit even in the early days of agnostic front, when their songs were all like 15 to 20 seconds long, they still at least wrote them down and used actual notes and chords as a basis. glassjaw is just screechy nonsense and im glad theyre gone. ---Xis
Someone (December 9, 2004)
glassjaw was not near the anti-christ that most of you think that they were. so quit jacking off to the news of their break up and go get laid.
Someone (December 9, 2004)
Along with them possibly scheduling tour dates and ani difranco coming to my town I totally thought my life was getting just a tad better... but nope....
Someone (December 9, 2004)
hey wait a minute... it only shows odb, biggie, 2pac and dimebag on the webpage and an announcement that their shows are cancelled. I dont understand how that can be evidence of a break-up. I'm not saying this in denial (although it kinda sucks) it just seems like you guys are jumping the gun a bit.
TrailerParkJesus (December 9, 2004)
Wow. This is a sad day for modern hardcore. very very sad. RIP. and we're gonna have to say RIP darryl soon too.
everytimeiwin (December 9, 2004)

dbapunx (December 9, 2004)
Glass JOE from Mike Tysons punch out is such a pussy...why does he continue to fight? I mean really...what a wimp.
Someone (December 9, 2004)
I want to know about The Falcon album. I was always indifferent on this band, but they spawned a bunch of shitty music. Anytime a band becomes a genre (Thrice for example) it ruins everything. - Walter Sobchak

so yeah, im a threadjacker. nonetheless, this is some fuckedup shit. http://www.livejournal.com/users/greendress/22768.html

glassjaw didnt breakup their expressing there view of all the musicians especially the ones in damage plan...
mykindofmurder (December 10, 2004)
if this proves to be false, you guys are going to lose points with me. that is for SURE>
Someone (December 10, 2004)
Maybe now they still have a chance to forever end their horrible contract with Warner that did nothing for them
Someone (December 10, 2004)
100th decent band.... wouldve liked to see the path they took after slowin down on Worship and Tribute... ahh well
Someone (December 10, 2004)
if this is true, i'm not bummed in the least. this band is/was/will always be one of the worst things to happen to music.
Someone (December 10, 2004)
Man this blows. They may not be everyones favorite, but they were different and they had their own thing going on. I give them that. They were all pretty nice to me too. I like Head Automatica when I saw them. Thought they were pretty kick ass. I don't know how well they are doing, or what numbers they have done, I just liked the show. Thought they worked it and they looked like they were having fun up there. I think what was being pulled though in the GJ universe was pretty shady. I would rather see them close it out like this then fuck over members of the band. Thats just ugly shit and there is way to much of that going on nowadays.
Someone (December 10, 2004)
i hate to be the bearer of bad news they didnt break up you morons who researches this crap? there is no statement i hate the band but jesus they said they are gonna reschedule the shows its just cause the skinny disco douche is sick again. any of you fans, just relax.
Someone (December 10, 2004)
I don't understand why there's ODB and not Jam Master Jay? He wasn't killed by anyone (except him maybe) Nevermind Glassjaw wasn't really good...
Someone (December 10, 2004)
I decided to listen to Glassjaw for the first time in months in honor of their demise.....I got halfway through "Lovebites and Razorlines" and decided to put on Eminem....
Someone (December 10, 2004)
"Daryl is not doing so well. It's something that has always been a factor in this band. If he's sick, we don't play. The kid's health is more important then anything. We've never given him shit for being sick, because we can't. That would be extremely insensitive. It's no one's fault. They had to cut short a Head Automatica tour because of his health, and he hasn't fully recovered yet. I'm sure the shows will be rescheduled. We haven't been rehearsing for nothing. As soon as I have more info, I'll post. Although I'm sure it will also be explained on the official site. It usually is explained on there when there's been a cancellation."
Someone (December 10, 2004)
well, darryl's chron's has come out of remission. maybe that's why the shows were cancelled.
Someone (December 11, 2004)
I bet I would get mad scene cred if I posted anonymously about how I hate this tour. I bet the lead singer in the band that I love will run up to me in the basement show and say, "Yea man, fuck that tour. Music isn't about music anymore, it's just a style." Then I'll throw down 15 bucks for their shirt and EP and remember that I'm not supposed to vote for George Bush or the machine he represents. This is irrelevant to the show, but saying things like this will earn me mad scene cred. So I walk up to a girl that has great fashion sense and is wearing a Led Zepplin shirt just to let everyone know that eventhough she's a punker, she can still mellow out to the stylings of classic rock. I say to her, "Boy, that tour is going to blow, with all that faux-core and hot topic crowd." She gives me a wink and offers me a piece of tofu.
Later that day, I pass the arena show rest of comment
Someone (December 14, 2004)
i just bought 2 new Squeeze records and have HA on repeat, but somehow that's not enough. overrated? perhaps. fucking awesome? definitely. like people have been saying though, all good things must end. as long as everyone in the band is doing what they wanna be at this point, i say it's alright. except for sitting in the hospital nursing stomach ulcers. that fucking sucks. go support everyone's side projects and keep looking for good new bands...is all. i guess.
Someone (January 10, 2005)
i can't believe all the drama on a fuckin message board! anyone who talks shit to someonel else over the internet is a true and sad pussy ass punk motherfucker who has no real self-condidence, and anyone who takes a break up of a band as a chance to bash them is just pathetic. i think glassjaw is one of the most amazing bands i've ever heard. if you know anything about music, you will notice that the time signatures, tempo changes, and overall sound of the band is incredibly unique, and they are all brilliant musicians. i can understand if one doesn't like the bands sound, it is not for everyone. but i don't think any of you shit talkers have sold nearly as many cds or played as many shows as glassjaw did AND NEVER WILL. of course, one of you could be in a band like good charolette or something, but i find it pointless to ruthlessly disrespect a band that doesn't necceca show rest of comment
Someone (January 10, 2005)
this is sad....like i didnt even know. yesterday i logged on to their website and seen the change in their site. this sucks! glassjaw was my favorite band and yeah im never gonna get the chance to see them live again! that sucks!! RIP glassjaw.... i hope you guys will rise again
Someone (January 11, 2005)
yes i agree these people are idiots...glassjaw isnt breaking up...there is still a website and he clearly posted "No, the band is not breaking up or becoming monks, we are just beginning another record and the timing unfortunately doesn’t work." thats proof they aint breakin up...plus daryl is still workin on head automatica |
