Household Name signs the Planet Smashers

Household Name has signed Canada's long-running third wave revivalists the Planet Smashers.

Their recent effort Unstoppable will officially receive a UK release on September 12th. The album, which was produced by Chris Murray and features appearances from members of Big D And The Kids Table and Bedouin Soundclash, follows up 2003's Mighty. The band is still signed with the Union Label Group / Stomp Records in North America.

Aren't the Antimaniax on this label? They are fucking amazing. Planet Smashers are pretty good too, though they sound like your run-of-the-mill third wave ska band.

So will they just be doing all their UK stuff or all of their stuff? Not like it matters, I don't really like the new disc that much...Which makes me sad because I'm a ska-whore...A filthy dirty ska whore. -Dante P.S. Wait...I'm just a regular whore too.

Arghh this label is so fucking boring nowadays, with a couple of exceptions...Antimaniax, John Holmes (hell yeah!!), Five Knucle (R.I.P) and some more i can't be bothered to list. Where are the good old days of bands like "Hard to Swallow", "Imbalance" and "Snap Her" arghh Howards Alias are terrible, they play my town everday, dam i wish theyd stop signing ska punk acts, boring.

and before anybody goes "but wait Five Knuckle and Antimaniax are ska punk" no and yes, they don't do the bullshit thing of relying on shitty trumpets they incoporate ska riffs nicely, ala i don't know Choking Victim i guess.

Yeah i've seen the filaments a few times in the past and i have some of their material on vinyl and some Cd's but i always considered them horn driven punk rather then skapunk, there not bad, not my favourite band on the label by far though.

They were the only band i knew of on that label(besides the Peacocks) till CrookedSuperhero mentioned Adequate Seven so i decided to download their albums and also Antimaniaz, both were surprisingly good.

Yeah Adequete 7 are weird i have seen them about 3 times they are like funk punk, it shouldn't work but it comes off alright, Peacocks are super fun, seen them twice good, psychobilly type stuff, Antimaniax i have seen twice and they are really good kind of Choking Victim type stuff.

I really can't get into that band they just feel to me like they want to be in the vein of boring coporate MTV pop punk ala blink 182 or sum 41 rather then the rad pop punk of Undertones and The Buzzcocks.

meh, i would have cared before "Unstoppable" came out. i don't think it's a bad record, it just somehow manages to be the most boring album ever. like, i can see potential in so many songs and it's just never realized... such a shame. some of their older stuff is pretty damn good though. hopefully the new Less Than Jake (i can hope, right???) or the new Streelight Manifesto (a sure thing) will restore my faith in ska.

oh, please be one. i'm definitley not a ska elitist, in fact i don't know much about the genre beside the bands i really like, i would say i prefer 'ska-punk' though i'm not sure what that means. feel free to school me in what i don't know.

i like Lightyear. "Chris Gentlemens..." was a great album. but aren't they broken up? i just lack faith in anything that's coming out now. i love the latest Big D album, but taht came out almost a year ago, and off the top of my head i can't think of anything great that's come out since then. one great album a year is kinda sad. and i'd love to start my own band, ska or otherwise, but i lack that stuff... you know, talent.
