Squirtgun to play benefit show

Squirtgun will be playing its first US show in two years Saturday November 19th at University Church in West Lafayette, Indiana. Of note is the appearance of drummer Dan Lumley (Screeching Weasel, Common Rider, Riverdales), who has otherwise retired from music.

The concert is a benefit with proceeds going to a Purdue graduate student and TA who had an expensive medical procedure and the university's insurance would not cover the whole bill. Donations at the door are $5 and the show starts at 7:00. Other acts include Pat McClimans Group, 7 Speed Vortex, Jorge Orillac, and CounterActive.

The band released their last album, Fade to Bright in 2003 on now-defunct Fat Wreck imprint, Honest Don's.

A few questions- 1) How long was this band around? 2) I know Honest Don's hasn't done anything in a really long time, but when did they officially become defunct?

10 years-ish... Maybe a bit longer. Their first real claim to fame was their song "Social" being the song during the opening credits in MALLRATS. -Chris43

The band has been around since '93 but the Giorginni brothers have been playing together since the mid 80's Squirtgun's Fade to Bright was actually the last release on Honest Don's.

Great band! i remember when they played my small town in the uk and no assholes turned up, about 14 people at most!. Good quality pop punk band.

Fat Mike owned Honest Don's and the band's on that label were wrapped into Fat (i.e. Chixdiggit) Red Scare is owned by someone else.

Mass had such bad-assed stage presence...grinning from ear to ear the entire time. They should have listed what lineup is playing. I'm assuming Dan, Mass and Flav, but I wonder if Zach will be playing too???

I would have liked to have seen them with Matt at some point, just for a comparison in a live setting. Every time I ever saw them, Zac was with them though... Matt No Able To Tour-ee Much-ee... I certainly did always like Zac's voice on the songs though. -Chris43

I never got why pink and black and honest dons were seperate from Fat wreck, anybody care to enlighten me?

This is pure speculation, but I think Fat used to sign bands that sounded like "Fat" bands, but as Fat Mikes tastes were varied, he started Honest Don's to promote bands that were talented but didn't fit the Fat mold. Then he started Pink & Black to promote (predominately) female bands. I think that a combination of: 1. most of the imprint bands just happening to break up, 2. tax reasons?, and 3. the realization that the Fat logo satisfied consumer's "name recognition impulsive spending habits" (i forgot what it's really called, any help?) had something to do with the never-announced end of Honest Don's and Pink & Black. I personally liked Honest's Don's lineup circa 97' - 99' a little more than Fat's.

Ah i see! thanks. I agree with your last point too. It's strange now how bands like Chixdiggit have now jumped from Honest Dons to Fat now.

i was supposed to see them in '98 with 88 fingers louie at the metro, but they cancelled and fury 66 took their place. i was not very happy about that.
