In The Red has announced that they will release the debut album from the Submarine Races later this year. The band is the brainchild of former Ponys guitarist / keyboardist Ian Adams. The three piece also features Steve Denekas and Paul John Higgins, the pair adding names like the Countdown, Red Eyed Legends and Fucking Werewolves to the Races' "ex-members of" list. The band, who've gone through a number of names in their few months together, described themselves as starting out "like a candy addiction... Instead of not being able to stop eating chocolate and gumdrops, they couldn't stop listening to the Byrds and Minutemen records."
Adams left celebrated Chicago garage act the Ponys in 2005 and was succeeded by Brian Case of 90 Day Men. The Ponys have spent the winter off the road writing for the follow up to last year's Steve Albini produced Celebration Castle. They plan to hit the studio in the next few months and will start touring again when the snow thaws.
