The first single from AFI's upcoming full length has been posted on the band's official website. The track comes from the band's long-awaited (and delayed) sophomore album, Decemberunderground.
The album is expected to contain both "hardcore moments" and more electronc leanings as well as feature backing vocals from Tiger Army's Nick 13, Dan Smith from Day of Contempt, Bleeding Through's Brandon Schieppati, Eighteen Visions' Keith Barney, and Ronan Harris from VNV Nation, among others. You can check out "Miss Murder" on their myspace page. The album follows Sing the Sorrow and the band will be supporting the album with a run on this summer's Warped Tour. I'd like to have a "hardcore moment" with that Havok chick... 2+ Replies

There's potential here, I don't know how the album is going to come out, but I'm getting this weird gothy/psychobilly vibe for some reason. 3+ Replies

As I said a while back, this is either gonna be really fucking good, or really fucking bad. This song suggests the latter, but then, so did Girls Not Grey. 1+ Reply

This band has an amazing ability to adapt their sound to what's popular at the time of each release without losing the basics of what makes them AFI. 1+ Reply

I still think that mystery thing they are doing will just be the longest sudden screaming joke ever.

That song is ridiculous. I like the part where Davey sings like that pud on American Idol doing Silverstein. AFI: chasing trends in fashion and music for 15 years.
Someone (April 15, 2006)
I really like this. I always wished AFi incorporated more radio-friendly parts into theirs songs, the songwriting always seemed to allow for it, but Davey's fasination with the misfits and looking like a homo always hindered this band. hopefully their management stepped up and showed them how well green day did and made them follow suit. 2+ Replies

If they wanted to go more hardcore, they should have switched vocalists with the guy in Himsa. Appearance wise it would be a seamless transition, circa late 90's of course.

AFI has potential to be so much better than this. like with "sing the sorrow", that album pretty much sucked. however the 3 songs from that session, "synesthesia", "now the world", and "reviver's music" were soooooooo fucking good. and they werent on the album, except synesthesia was on the non-U.S. version of the album. what im getting at is those songs would have been such an amazing direction for the band, but they just keep blowing it. 1+ Reply

Everyone's saying how this sounds like Green Day because of the "Hey Hey"s, but listen to older AFI songs like Third Season from Shut Your Mouth, and the "Hey Hey" is in the chorus for that song too. 2+ Replies

About two and a half minutes into the song Davey yells and it sounds like Stza Crack.
Someone (April 16, 2006)
It's kinda funny how people are complaining about how the single sounds. For AFI the singles have always been the worst song on the album, with the exception of "He Who Laughs Last". SO UH OH I don't like the worst song on the album. Bummer, that means the whole albums gonna suck. 1+ Reply
Skankur (April 16, 2006)

Someone (April 16, 2006)
Album will be amazing. And it's not their sophmore album, maybe sophmore on a major label, but in terms of their records. Miss Murder may be poppy, but it's a single for god sake. You people are fucking morons. End yourselves before you look any less intelligent than you already do. Really, do it. Please.
Someone (April 16, 2006)
when i read the news of AFI having "hardcore moments" i had hoped they weere going back to their roots and playing punk like the good ole days. but alas, they are not. i still like this song though, im looking forward to the album and seeing them at warped tour. maybe they will play some old school stuff, for the die hard fans.
Someone (April 16, 2006)
This is alright. If this is any indication, I'll like this better than Sing the Sorrow, at any rate.
Someone (April 16, 2006)
What the fuck! i checked out the new track on Myspace and it seem to me that most people are interested in the new hair doo's the guys have more than the music. (although the hair in this case is way better!) Why has punk become so superficial. I wish everybody would fuck off who support sell out bands like this and get a grip on reality. AFI have turned their back on the punk scene and in reality everybody who considers themselves punk who supports this shit should re-evaluate their place in the punk scene. In my book throwing money at money (corporate record labels and their puppet bands) should be avoided at all times. fuck em, keep it real. 1+ Reply

so who can read the "influences" section on their myspace page, which is in what i'm assuming is french?
coupar (April 17, 2006)
This song may not be that good,, but lets face it, even if "Miss Murder" was a great mix of AFI's best work from Black Sails in the Sunset, Very Proud of Ya, and Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes, we'd be complaining that they were just regurgitating the same old sound. I have those three albums already, I don't need another one just like it.
Someone (April 17, 2006)
Well that settles it...I'm going to be avoiding this one like the plague as well.

Back like a shitload of months ago Davey described the single would have an overall "cold-pop" sound. Well, Miss Murder is exactly that. Its a pop song a dark/cold/goth pop song. The only reason people are pissed is because Jade said the album had hardcore moments, not the single. And of course punknews.org attaches that fucking quote on to every AFI story just so over 300 people comment. I don't know why people are freaking out, Davey basically told everyone what this single would sound like.
Someone (April 20, 2006)
I'm pretty much fine with bands deciding to explore new territory. I think if every album AFI put out sounded like Black Sails, then they'd end up being a pretty forgettable band because it's all the fucking same. I was actually excited to hear that they were going for a "cold pop" style sound. I was not excited to hear this single though. When i heard the title i thought, "doesnt avenged sevenfold already have a song with that name?" when i heard the song i understood why so many compare it to green day. the opening bass-line/guitar part is very reminiscent of their stuff. i thought it was boring. there were decent moments, but still boring.
Someone (April 22, 2006)
AFI put the same amount of energy into everything they do. And they do it for the fans. I like it, im excited for the new cd. If you havent noticed their sound changed a lot from Answer that and stay fashionable.
Someone (April 23, 2006)
So, all people are gonna do is bitch about this thing then bitch again when the new album comes out. I personaly like it but then again...
Someone (April 25, 2006)
I got all excited about seeing a new AFI single, listened to it, counfussed it for some new Taking Back Sunday for a quick seocond, looked back at my computer and see if the vocal volume was screwed up, made sure it was AFI, and stared blankly for 5 minutes. It's a good song... but... it's not what AFI is or was. They should be making their stuff for the people who've been waiting for months to hear from them, not the future TRL nation. 1+ Reply
Someone (April 28, 2006)
i cought this song halfway through on the radio and had no idea it was AFI....i was actually just about to make fun of it when the DJ gave me the bad news. I mean, girl's not grey was a shitty song, but at least it sounded like a shitty afi song...but regardless, sing the sorrow was a pretty good album all in all and i expect this one to be on par.....we'll never see another black sails/AOD/ or very proud of ya....but i'm sure they'll still put on a disgusting live set...so i'm just gonna look forward to that | Features
