Further Update on Pulley's upcoming DVD, future plans

Pulley bass player, Tyler Rebbe, recently returned from playing "24 shows in a row through eight countries with no days off and no hotels" with Death By Stereo in Europe has posted another update on the band's message board about the current status of the band's DVD:

"I watched about an hour of it before I left on this last tour. It was really cool and in depth. I heard it had to be done by May 1st and it is going to come out in October. I haven't talked to any of the guys yet, but i'm sure I will in the next day or two and I will let everyone know what's up. I DO know that Mike and Tony have been jamming and writing songs on a regular basis while I've been gone.

This will be Pulley's first release since their 2004 release Matters.

Maybe I'm a douche but I didn't really like Matters. Then again I was reviewing it for a radio station so I had to skip any songs with swearing, so that probably didn't help. Still it just didn't impress me too much.

But....I have seen Pulley live twice. That's a hell of a show. Even if people wouldn't stop yelling at Scott for "blowing" games.

When I had to review songs for a radio station I would try to just listen to the album all the way through once, then go back and actually review it. Unless the label sent us an edited copy of the album. That would just make it too hard for me to enjoy.

I think, as an album, it wasn't amazing, but there are some REALLY good songs on there... give it another spin if you have time.... Blindfold, Looking Back, and YSC are the ones that always stood out to me...

not really though, i can see it not being everyones thing, i think you have to have a very specific kind of taste for this to really speak to you, but if it does, you know it's something truly amazing.

Hahaha! This is the most non-news item I've ever read. The slug should have read, "Pully Member Watches Hour of future DVD." Why not wait a week to find out some actual news like say, when it's actually going to be released? Like what he's kind of hinting to finding out in the next couple of days.

Pulley is pretty much the only punk band (that has anything in common with the old epitaph days and, that are still together) That I still listen to. Esteem driven engine definitley makes my all-time top 10.

if i did a true all time top 25, i'm pretty sure 'Matters', EDE and S/T would all be in there. two in the top 10.

They're disconnected from the old Epitaph in my head. That doesn't mean that they're not awesome, but they didn't put out the s/t until 1997 and already had a reputation before they signed to Epitaph.

Plus, they BMX, not skate. I'm told there's a huge difference, but the farthest I got in extreme sports was doing a wheelie on my bike when I was 11.

well yeah it wasn't until 97 but i don't think pulley was on there before 97 either, although I guess TFP was.

i consider older, older epitaph bands like offspring, rkl, down by law, nofx etc.

Yeah, you got me on the time thing. Pulley's first album came out in '96 so it was still post-Smash. TFP can count but even they didn't put out Rev until 94 I think.

I guess it's more of the traditional sound than anything else. West coast skatepunk vs. East coast everything-mashed-together.

It still gets me when I look at how flat out awesome Epitaph's roster was for the first fifteen years. Up until about 2001 they were almost untouchable. I'm going to put on punkrockacademyfightsong now.

i hate to sound like an old asshole, but i miss those days so much. even with all the awesome shit coming out these days, i wish i could be as excited as i used to be in 96-99.

and 'Rev' is top 25 all time too.

yeah totally. i grew up in l.a. loving all those bands. i understood what you meant about the Epitaph days. i guess it was really the EpiFat days, cause i'd throw Lagwagon, NUFAN and Strung out in there too.

ironically i live on teh east coast now and the souls are (and have been since about 97 -- punk-o-rama III) been my favorite band. i guess its not that ironic. but whatever yeah. i'm gonna go listen to the deviates now.

I don't know too much about that list but I can tell you what I DO know. And what I DO know is that Last of the Sharpshooters and Static are two of the worst albums I have ever heard and have always been the sore spots in my record collection since 1996.

I loved the first 5 DBL. What the hell happened after they left Epitaph? Fly The Flag was absolutley horrible and their last one wasn't much better.

I`m 24 and it`s all about the EpiFat days for me... I think silver tongue devil is the best pulley song, never heard em play it live though.
