Smoke or Fire enlists former From Ashes Rise drummer; recording with Matt Allison

Fat Wreck Chords act Smoke Or Fire has enlisted drummer Dave Atchison. Atchison, a former member of defunct hardcore punk act From Ashes Rise, will join the band as they record their sophomore full length and follow up to Above The City.

The band has opted to record this September with producer Matt Allison (Alkaline Trio, Lawrence Arms) and are aiming for a tentative February release. In the meantime, the new lineup will be touring in the fall and debuting new material.

From Ashes Rise released a number of records, with their last, Nightmares issued via Jade Tree in 2003.

I agree, to only have ryan greene mix some of the songs really took away fron the whole thing and it sounded patched together

then the more obvious, with jonah, Onelinedrawing, Gratitude, and the amazing New End Original.... i think he also has a new album coming out on jade tree

well people, the last six months have been a rollercoaster ride. Fun, but also pressurized with the pressure for having to come up with witty, scathing, but all the while completly true remarks and observations about the punk scene.

After hundreds of comments, six vulgar reviews (only one of which i feel is lacking (the adolescents one)), and thousands of variations of the word "fuck", I have finally reached the top of the Punknews community: i have a parody of my username.

Thats right, i pissed a someone off enough to inspire him to register the username FuckFuckYouOiOiOi (pretty good if i do say so myself). Many people said it wouldn't happen to me, that SteveJones(theRealBones) and IHeartAgainstMe would be the only ones offensive enough to have a parody in their name. To those I say, "Fuck You! Oi! Oi! Oi!"

...the first few times. they pkay the same damn thing EVERY TIME i see em. i mean yeah they're great and i like them a lot but jesus, switch it up.

in either case, i am excited that this is happening. also, i enjoy every nickname that the lawrence arms have come up with for matt allison, and someday i'd llike to see him in person, supposedly he's nuts.

ha, hardly. The SoF is much better. The Jericho EP had one or two really solid songs, but the production was pretty lame. The full length SoF album was solid, good production, etc.

Huh...I was wearing my From Ashes Rise shirt when I saw Smoke or Fire with the Unseen and Anti-Flag in April and SoF's singer complimented me on it and said they were one of his favorite bands. Crazy...

Alkaline Trio needs to go spend some time with Matt Allison so they can make another good record. Jerry Finn is poison to music, with the exception of Out Come The Wolves.

agreed...everything Matt Allison has recorded with the trio has been Great... the One man Army split proved this....Just look at what he as done with Lawrence arms as well.... Jerry Finn has made the trio albums kinda suck...

i bought smoke or fire and found that it had some really good tracks and some really bad tracks and the recording was only meh.

they've got potential though.
