I disagree. They're using "punk" as a relative term. In this context Rockabilly and original Rock'n'roll musicians played the "punk" music of there day.

Also the term punk was applied to all the early artists by their detractors. Plus those dudes lived harder and rock more then 99% of the shitty punk bands out there today.

I thought punk was supposed to be a mindset and a movement. Unfortunately, many people just think of the "50s" as Eddie Cochran/ Elvis and poodle skirts. But, real, underground rockabilly and jive was wild, crazy, and talked about sex drugs alcohol and partying just as much as any band after them. They were the ones that started it. I think rockabilly is given a bad rep by people who don't really understand what it's all about.

I for one know most of these songs and can't wait to buy this set!

I'm not disrespecting the movement. Like I said I think many of the bands were great and were a huge influence on punk bands. However, I don't think it would really fall under "punk".

You should check out the Comp Albums "Black Rock n' Roll" and "More Black Rock n' Roll" on Savage Beat Records. They both cover early 50's Rock n Roll before it was called Rock n Roll. Alot of the early Rock n Roll had the fire that Punk bought back to the table. Punk was the rebirth of Rock n Roll.

You can't tell me Screamin'Jay Hawkins and Hasil Adkins weren't punk as fuck.

In and era of institutionalized apartheid in the US 50's rockabilly and rock'n'roll musicians played "black" music to integrated audiences. In my father's own experience as a civil-rights worker in the 60's, most of the white youth involved were first exposed to black people and culture through going to listening to rock'n'roll radio and going to concerts.

They were way more of a threat to the statues-quo then all the hot-topic, Van Warped Tour, corporate punk that gets covered on this site.

Well he made a comeback after that but his carrer was at its lowest point. Listen to "Live at the Star Club, Hamburg". It was recorded during his comeback in 1964. And he was on fire.

He was never jailed for marrying his 14 year old cousin. He just reaped a bunch of unfavorable publicity in the late 1950s when he was on tour in England and the British media found out about it. The hilarious part about it was that not only did he marry his cousin, but he forgot to divorce his existing wife before doing so, so in essence, he was a polygamist.

I'm sure someone else has to agree with you, but it was Punk-O-Rama 3 for me.

I am a huge Rockabilly fan. I can listen to it all day and never get sick of it. To me Punk is the the bastard son of Rockabilly. They both have simple band set up a guitarist, bassist, drums, and singer. It's all you really as the old saying goes less is more. This box set should serve as a good introduction to those who want get a small glimpse of what Rockabilly is. Personally I love Johnny Burnette Rock N Roll Trio.

I'd go with Nuggets and Nuggets II first.

I never understood how Elvis always got the full credit for creating a new sound. I have to say Scotty Moore Elvis' guitarist and Bill Black(bassist) should have gotten the most credit for creating this new sound and changed the way music was played forever. Elvis deserves credit for singing in a completely different style at a time when everyone else was singing Gospel, and Country.
