Go-Kart announces new sampler

Go-Kart Records has announced a new low-priced sampler, titled Go-kart Vs. The Corporate Giant 4. The record will include songs from Cougars, the Shocker, I Farm, Ten Foot Pole, World/Inferno Friendship Society, the Ergs, Rifu, Transmission- and many more. The CD will hit stores on August 29th.

Sampler?

It's 2006 if it's not an MP3 or on myspace I don't think the kids care anymore.

I really do miss the days of "comps" though.

I'm sure a lot of us have a lot of fond memories from them. For me it was Punk-O-Rama 2.1 that really broke me into more music. At the time all I listened to was Nitro Records bands (Vandals, AFI, Guttermouth, the Offspring, and Jughead's Revenge). Then I bought a pair of Airwalks and got this free sampler and it blew me away! One thing lead to another after that. Def. one of the top reasons I hate Epitaph for renaming the PoR series.

Sometimes I wish I could discover new music like that again.

Side note, are Jug's Revenge even a band anymore?

I like comps too, just because they're always really cheap. As long as they have a lot of songs on them and don't cost anything, I'll buy 'em. It's easier than taking the effort to download all of the songs, and it exposes you to new bands as well.

Jug's Revenge are still kind of around. Search the archives for any stories about them and one of the guys from the band wrote a long schpiel about how they got fucked over by Nitro.

The '99 warped tour comp got me curious, and the combination of POR 2 and POR 4 hooked me. Epitaph had a deal where if you bought one Epitaph CD you got POR 4 for a buck, and the girl behind the counter didn't think to check whether a comp counted as a full length, so I got 'em both for five bucks.

Heres the scenario: I'm an impressionable 13 year old on a trip to disneyland with my parents. We happen to walk past a hot topic. I walk inside, and see a rack displaying one of the earlier Go Kart samplers. Its only 4 dollars, and since we don't have a music store in my town i pick it up. I could pretty much credit that sampler for exposing me to all kinds of punk/other bands that i would have never heard otherwise. Everything from...mustard plug, to dillinger escape plan, to the explosion.

Side note, around the same time i saw Jugs Revenge open for the Vandals and Offspring. Wonder if they're still around as well.
