Justin: Sometimes you're glad when a band isn't joking. Taft's Brigade is that band. Like hardcore? Like history? Like the idea that any single one of us nerds can start a band? Then this band is for you. It's a hardcore band that studies the minutia of history and makes short, fast songs about it. How can you not love it? How many more questions can I put in this writeup? Why shouldn't we eat the yellow snow? I don't know.

Taft's Brigade at Myspace - 4 downloadable songs

Aubin: Speaking of hardcore, one of the most underrated and excellent hardcore acts around has to be Brooklyn, NY's Hiretsukan. Dynamic, passionate music as much Converge as Drive Like Jehu, and powered by one of the most incredible frontwomen in any genre. The band released End States last year on G7 and you can check out two tracks here:

Hmm i don't think Hiretsukan sound like Converge or Drive like Jehu at all. They always reminded me more of Witch Hunt and Provoked.

taft's brigade...... where's the hardcore? or songwriting ability?

the hardcore has to do with how they beat people up during shows, the song writing ability is eschewed so they have more time to read about history.

I can never tell what hardcore is anymore. It used to be that The Exploited was hardcore. Now Taking Back Sunday is hardcore. I would have said they were screamo/pussy.

I'm actually being hired by Sire to run Against Me!'s marketing campaign. It's going to be centered around being spineless and not following through on your convictions. Tafts Brigade is playing a show this sunday in their hometown of San Jose. They will be playing with November Trials(terrible name), Shinobu(Asian Man Records) and a slew of other bands.

What, I don't party? I PARTY HARD!!!

Actually, a friend of mine found them and showed them to me. He hates hardcore, is british and loves indie rock but loves the Taft's Brigade. So I knew I;d like them.
