With Monday's announcement, it appears that official business has, uh, officially begun on the new album. And while it remains to be seen just how Green Day plan on following up American Idiot - an album that sold more than 5 million copies in the U.S. and won the Grammy for Best Rock Album - the band promised a full update on the new record would be posted on its Web site next week.
Green Day posted on their official site that it has put away the sunscreen and is hard at work on a brand new (and already hotly anticipated) album. And while additional details remain scarce, a spokesperson for the band's label, Reprise Records, did confirm to MTV that writing is underway at an undisclosed studio in California's East Bay area. The spokesperson went on to note that it is still very early in the recording process, and that Green Day have not settled on a producer, title or release date for the new album.

i am super stoked for this. always loved this band. insomniac > most records.
TrueBeliever (August 30, 2006)
I really hated American Idiot, but I listen to it again like a month ago, with all the Green Day mania finally being over, and I finally realized how good that album is.
FuckYouOiOiOi (August 30, 2006)
they should just make a fast, sloppy short punk album. thats the only way to follow american idiot. also, it would be cool to see them dabble in some operation-ivy ska (no horns).
Someone (August 30, 2006)
American Idiot was great, when you ignore all the media and hype that surrounded the dudes.
tylerdurden8136 (August 30, 2006)
I think I'm one of the few people who doesn't think American Idiot was overhyped...I feel Green Day deserve everything they got for that album.
Dante3000 (rich) (August 30, 2006)
I am honestly not at all interested in this. I just got so tired of the American Idiot hype machine.
Someone (August 30, 2006)
You made a bloated rock opera. Fine. I hated it and the rest of the world loved it. Fine.
kman1224 (August 30, 2006)
Everyone says Jesus of Suburbia is a great rock opera....the Decline makes Jesus of Suburbia look like Dog doo-doo!
JKyle (August 30, 2006)
I really hope the new album is closest in spirit to Warning: a collection of great, catchy pop songs with no unnecessary pretense of "punk-ness." Still their best album in my opinion.
MrStylson (August 30, 2006)
I'll be honest. Chances are anything they will release I'll love. I was happier around the Warning time, great album and they had a lot less hype around them.
MrStylson (August 30, 2006)
oh, and since the american idiot stage is done now, can we get a different icon for them than the heart/grenade?
TrueBeliever (August 30, 2006)
I'll Probably get a lot more feed back in this article so I'll repost (with a slight adjustment...)
Kursk (August 30, 2006)
Green Day are the only band I actually consider to be "sell-outs." I hate using that word, but they are, hopefully as someone said with the American Idiot stage over, Billy Joe will take off the eyeliner and the red tie and jump off the democratic bandwagon (at least that's what i saw). I still like a lot of their old stuff though...even through Warning.

MikeStupid (August 30, 2006)
My opinion of "American Idiot" went from amazed to bored to annoyed, and has now settled on apathetic.
americanXidiot (August 30, 2006)
yes! finally a album to show everyone what REAL punk is. speaking of real punk i got the new against me album because everone seems to like them on this site. wow BIG MISTAKE these guys are bad. no wonder everyone is against them! how many more bands will try to be political now when the new gd comes out? think it will be worst then the first time?
GreatStoryOfApathy (August 30, 2006)
Someone please send me the Falcon, I have a long drive tomorrow, and I'd like to listen to it.
iconoclast (August 30, 2006)
i like amerian idiot a lot. i just fucking hate hate hate how that shits so overplayed (obviously predictably) in the mainstream world. it really takes away from it or something. still its great music.
Someone (August 30, 2006)
i for one am excited and enxious to hear what will come. yes, american idiot was overplayed that is not their fault, if anything you are saying it is their fault for writing good songs, a lot of their albums got played out but everyone came back to them. the only thing that i am scared about is the almost "alkaline trio's crimson" effect with this other guitar player i keep seeing. but none the less am awaiting more info.
TheRhetoric (August 30, 2006)
This shit is so boring... I cannot care about anyhting this band does.
Stev-o (August 30, 2006)
Fuck Green Day. American Idiot the song was fine, but very annoying. I listened to Dookie the other day.& that's overated too.
JayTee (August 30, 2006)
I'd complain about the overhype of american idiot, but honestly when im in a bar id rather "holiday" plays over the stereo than "save a horse ride a cowboy". FUCK im tired of hearing that song when Im out. By the way I agree with the 900000 people who said make another Insomniac. I got that album when it came out in 8th grade and Im STILL not sick of it. Its insane.

Longshot (August 30, 2006)
American Idiot was weird cos it had some great pop songs (American Idiot, Extraordinary Girl, Whatshername), some amazing punk songs (St. Jimmy, Letterbomb) and some realllly shitty and/or dissapointing radio songs (Blvd. Broken Dreams, Holiday). Yeah, it was hyped out the ass by everyone, but it really wasn't that bad. And yeah, Insomniac was a more "punk" record, but there wasn't too much variation of song style. Whatever they release next, I'll probably buy it.
AlmostPunkEnough (August 30, 2006)
i love the new Falcon so far, but why the hell did they have to redo two songs? 'Routes We Wander' has lost so much of it's raw emotion.
Skanknsmile (August 30, 2006)
does anyone else look at an article like this, read it, look at the comments and go...wow, what a baited trap of ambiguity and inane "punk" bullshit. or am i just to jaded and stoned?
Grantino (August 30, 2006)
my sister liked american idiot. she doesnt like insomniac or kerplunk!
Someone (August 30, 2006)
its going to be just like Warning and fail..i love green day but this is going to be a failier
Wentz_Equals_Death (August 30, 2006)
they're going to use the songs that were stolen before they made american idiot
Someone (August 30, 2006)
Ok they arent that bad, but its a shame that they sell 5 millions and other band which make more original music like Boy Sets Fire donts sell a 100 000 ....
klonny (August 30, 2006)
Green Day doesn't suck. Hell, American was actually worth listening to as opposed to their old crap. I'll probably download this one.
eddiej06 (August 30, 2006)
thats cool. always down for a new record. what are the estimates on the amount of sales already for their new record? haha
Someone (August 30, 2006)
i dont get how people can hate that Green Day are getting played in the mainstream. Surely its better than have to hear all the manufactured shite that gets churned up every single day???? i mean, would you rather have Green Day on the radio, or have the airwaves clogged up with all the American/Pop Idol garbage that some record exec pulled out his ass and dosen't even last a year before they are forgotten about???
ConJohn (August 30, 2006)
Someone send me the new Dead to Me CD and I will send you Unicornography.

Someone (August 30, 2006)
I can only hope they make this album, put it out, and shut up. No hype and no bullshit. I could play Insomniac or even Dookie to more than half the people I know and they wouldn't even know it was Green Day. The best thing that could happen is if this album produced no bullshit music videos, and no bullshit fashion. It should make the fans of mainstream music either A.) Cringe or B.) Decide to dig deeper than the radio with their music taste, and find out that there's some pretty awesome stuff going on in the underground. Preferably B..
Someone (September 4, 2006)
hey i agree with the the last qoute green day kicks ass and all those other bands r tone-deaf compared to green day
Someone (September 4, 2006)
Okay People, If you dont like Green Day, you wouldnt be on here, mk? i love them, there awesome, now about this whole sell out thing, everyone needs money to survive, and they donate to chairittys alot, so come on, its not all about the money, american idiot was a GREAT ALBUM!!! its how i became a fan, if it wasnt for that i wouldnt be who i am today. and im sure there are others that feel the exact same way..so if your going to cut them down make sure you have good reasoning, and if green day "sucks" then how come there so successfull and have so many fans? |
