The Dropkick Murphys's track "I'm Shipping Up To Boston" is a featured track in the soundtrack to Martin Scorsese's new film, The Departed. The film, which includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon and others, uses the song both in the opening credits and recurs throughout the entire
introduction of the film as the backstory of the characters involved are revealed.
The song comes from the band's most recent album, The Warrior's Code. Hellcat Records (89 comments)

Didn't they have a song in the movie "Fever Pitch" as well? Those dudes must be banking from all the recent lame-ass Boston movies that are coming out. Even Bill Simmons is all over these guys' jock. 1+ Reply

I thought this was cool when I heard it in the film, but isn't this the sort of news post that the folks over that absolutepunk make? 2+ Replies

Great movie. You won't hear it on the internet with its stubborn "remakes are teh suck!" attitude though. 5+ Replies

god, i saw this movie this weekend, and it is one of my favourite movies now. the acting combined with scorseces direction is incredible. Damon plays such a great rat, and nicholson steals the show. This song suits the movie perfectly too. 3+ Replies

As an ensemble, the cast was brilliant.
DiCaprio was fantastic, Damon solid and nuanced, Nicholson a delight to watch every time he was on screen, Baldwin and Wahlberg stole every scene they were in and played off each other to amazing affect, and Sheen showed a lot in a small role. The writing was so sharp. Not just the dialogue, of course, but the whole structure and pace of the film was great. And the direction was virtually flawless. I think that Scorcese's last handful of movies have had a lot of potential, but have gotten bogged down for various reasons... that said, for what this was, The Departed was about perfect as you can get. It's not necessarily a movie that will make you feel super happy about yourself and want to seize the day, like Little Miss Sunshine, but The Departed is the work of a craftsman. It blew me away show rest of comment | Features
