Big D and the Kids Table sign to SideOneDummy / recording "Strictly Rude"

Big D and the Kids Table have commenced recording their new album Strictly Rude at Camp Street Studio in Cambridge, MA. Mighty Mighty Bosstones bassist Joe Gittleman is producing the 16 track full length, which is set to arrive in March or April via Side One Dummy.

Prior to the new record Big D will release a split EP with China's Brain Failure titled From Beijing To Boston. It's expected in early 2007 via Bad News Records.

ah touche. i didn't even think of that. Maybe that only applies to bands that were major label veterans then signed to SideOneDummy (Bosstones, Suicide Machines, Slick Shoes)..?

I had hear rumors about this a long ass time ago. That's awesome for them. I'm not a big fan but I've heard nothing but great things about these guys.
Sucks for Springman, but they have enough great acts I hope they'll be alright.

I think its 100% rad. We did really great work with Big D in the past and will continue to in the future, Side One just has way more resources than we do to give the band what they need for this record, plus I still have another year of college right now.
I am very happy that they are going with Side One, especially out of all the other labels who were asking.

These guys deserve the new attention they'll get on SideOneDummy. Great guys, great music. The best current ska-punk band, as far as I'm concerned. I know that's not really saying much, but I still love this band.

lots of bands that have a history of worsening come to sideonedummy and suddenly get good again. RE: Suicide Machines, Bosstones, MxPx, Slick Shoes, etc plus they have awesome bands Piebald, Bedouin Soundclash, The Briggs, and Gogol Bordello.

I think this is really great news, they'll be label-mates with bands like Gogol Bordello, Flogging Molly, Bedoin Soundclash, The Bosstones, and more bands they go very well with.

Very minor corrections:

*Today was their first real day in the studio (not second).

*"From Beijing To Boston" was looking at a February 21st release, but I don't think it is confirmed yet (So, probably an April release, given how much notice RedEye needs to distribute a record). Speaking of, the songs on this split are fucking awesome, some of Big D's best ever, tracks that were originally tentatively set for the "Strictly Thrash" record.

We had to work fucking hard to get our records into stores when we were with Revolver, RevHQ, HepCat, Sounds Of California, Choke, and Cargo -- and then we had to work hard to get our records into stores with RED, and we still work hard with Mordam. I'd be into knowing what's with this anonymous spite here.

Did you used to work at Mordam? Are you part of an ex-Mordam label that didn't do any in-house marketing and wants someone to blame for shitty sales? Their operation has had a few bumps, but compared to the horror stories from every other distributor in existence, they have a pretty good track record.

We talked to Red Eye, they were very nice and excited and knew their shit, but they wanted way to huge of a percentage and had charge-backs for every little thing, it would not have been good for us or our bands. Mordam is right down the str

im kind scared about this release... i havent liked any of the new songs ive seen live, they seem to have a really ska feel to them, and ive always loved big d because of the heavy punk influence.

this just in, tenacious d on the current tour are amazing. full band (most of trainwreck + brooks wackerman) one of the better shows i've seen this year. thought i'd share. Jon from the swellers should be able to back me up, i ran into him at one point before they started

For sure. The new cd is fucking amazing, but I didn't think they were going to be able to pull off the songs live. Wow, was I ever wrong. I almost lost it when KG pulled out the recorder to play "Papagenu (He's My Sassafrass)".

Also, at the Chicago show they played "Special Thing" and "Jesus Ranch". Unbelievable. If only they would've played "Kyle Took a Bullet for Me" the set list would've been 100% complete. But who can complain about a show like that?

I agree, but don't forget streetlight manifesto, dead 60's, bedouin soundclash, less than jake... and all these other so called ska bands.

On another note:
The caddies are taking way too fucking long to make this new record... people are starting to forget about them and spinning their records.
It better be good... with more of a reggae dignity too it, no pop-punk filler like the song "rockupation"... which is just awful. I do love this band but they really don't need to make songs like that. I remember they mentioned gypsy and soul influences, which sounds like a great direction for them to head in.

i donno, i thought the guitar playing in rockupation was pretty slick. honestly...mad caddies can do no wrong. i don't think there's a single caddies song i don't like except for Contraband...seriously hate that song. i've heard one new caddies song, "Secret Alibis"...definitely busting out the reggae influence, sounds really nice. wish Chuck could find those lyrical stylings he had back in the Duck and Cover days though...those lyrics were kind of abstract but amazing.

Duck And Cover, along with The Holiday Has Been Canceled EP, is flawless. I wish the band could start writing songs like those again. I was flipping through my CD books recently and came upon Rock The Plank, and I forgot that album even existed -- I couldn't name you one song off it.
