A lot of people say the reason My Bloody Valentine didn't make another record is because we couldn't. That's mostly true, but not because we couldn't make another record, but because I never could be bothered to make another record unless I was really excited by it. And just by fate or whatever, that never happened. I'm quite optimistic about the future, even though experience has taught me that I'm probably just delusional. I do feel that I will make another great record. We are 100 percent going to make another My Bloody Valentine record unless we die or something. I'd feel really bad if I didn't make another record. Like, shit, people only got the first two chapters, but the last bit is the best bit. It's just that it's taken me such an oddly long time for that to happen. How long will that take to transpire into an actual physical record? I don't know.Their last release was 1991's Loveless, via Sire/Warner Records, and is heralded by many music critics, fans and musicians and one of the decade's best and the group has often been cited an an influence among many popular bands, perhaps most notably Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins. Though an official break-up/hiatus was never announced, the band has for the most part been inactive since 1995.

In a recent interiew in the January/February issue of Magnet Magazine, Kevin Shields, guitarist/vocalist of My Bloody Valentine discussed his interest in recording a new record with the influential 90's alternative rock group:

If they played this bands music to the terrorists at Gitmo there is no doubt that we would have Bin-Laden in custody before you can say "fuck this emocore shit". 7+ Replies

so can someone tell me why there is any amount of hype surrounding the lawrence arms? Is it because they remind people of Jawbreaker or the Alkaline trio without Skiba's awful goth/death shit going on? The lyrics on apathy and oh calcutta are generic as fuck...count all your fingers tonight?? do you like my party tricks?? wow. mind blowing and clever. no interesting guitar parts, pretty generic punk sound. really, what am i missing here? oh itm ust be that secret track, the rebellious one about hating warped tour. pretty punk rawk from these dude, seeing as it comes after booted off warped. these guys are so punk. i get it now. 13+ Replies

I'm gonna go to Best Buy and pre-order this album just like I did with Chinese Democracy 10 years ago.

Loveless is a masterpiece, and always will be. If Kevin Shields decides to make a new album it's gonna be fuckin rad. He was so anal about Loveless that he'd have to know he could kill another record before he made it. If this goes down it's gonna be amazing.

this guy is literally insane. hes a total fucking recluse. but goddamn the noises he makes are unbelievably good. 1+ Reply

i heard a while back that they were working a flow up to loveless and they decided to buy a studio and record themselves. as time went they just kept giving excuses and then there was a studio fire that burned most of the new album.
KissTheBottle (January 14, 2007)
Not to sound like a douchebag, but Kevin Shields has said every year since 1991 will be the year a new My Bloody Valentine record is released.
He's claimed countless times to British and American media that he'd either: - been collaborating with sources on the record - made demos - laid tracks - written entire songs - had an album finished I'm not trying to be an ass, but I follow the band quite a bit. I would like as much as anyone if the rumors about a new album bore actual fruit this year, but it doesn't look very likely. Sometimes I think he gets off on screwing with the press. Sometimes I think he's just trying to ride the various resurgences in popularity MBV has received over the years. You think by now people would stop believing him, but I think the majority of people who hear it realize what a great show rest of comment
