Thanks to the magic of YouTube, another interesting bit of hardcore arcana is now available for viewing online. In this piece, a number of New York hardcore fans visit The Phil Donahue Show to discuss a controversial article in New York Magazine.
The clip features the fans, writer and host discussing bands like Agnostic Front and Murphys Law and provides an interesting glimpse into the world of 1986, as well as the corresponding hardcore scene of the era. Games and Technology (187 comments)

With the white hair and funky suit, Donahue looks pretty hip by today's "standards". 2+ Replies

Wow. Just wow. That was an insult to my intelligence. Maybe those hardcore kids would get some respect if they could speak english. 2+ Replies

they should have had more of ray, ernie, jimmy and the more intelligent people speak instead of having the kids in audience make hardcore look bad.

Hahaha! I had a good laugh at this. I loved it when there was some self promotion from the Cro-Mags. I need to find the entire episode of this now!

you youngsters are so deluded with your video games and sidekicks and shity, shitty bands. you've got no scene, no unity, and nothing to get passionate about. microwave babies. that donahue show speaks for itself - all you little shitbirds on here are the equivalent of the frumpy, uptight audience members who didn't "get" the hardcore scene. born too late children. boo fuckin' hoo. 19+ Replies

Donahue was such a pimp. 1+ Reply

On a funny side note, all of the audience members are now employed at your local fast food chain.

I rather have Donahue over a Dr. Keith Asslow anyday.
Someone (February 1, 2007)
DAMN, I remember the day this played.

500 fucking people in the room and not one of them sounded remotely intelligent? Come on that was embarrassing. 6+ Replies

fucking hilarious, but it's dumb to judge an entire scene on one shitty agnostic front song
Someone (February 1, 2007)
When it originally aired someone yelled out Vinny stigma for president at the end.

Was that the french-canadian girl from "Another State of Mind" in there at the end? 1+ Reply

Wow, honestly when you watch this, the first thing that comes to my mind is alot of the hardcore crowd just seems like overgrown kids. everyone has their own interpretation of what hardcore is, someone should write a hardcore bible so there would be clear cut rules. some of the kids have good points, nothing that I haven't heard before, but it just shows that in 20 years some things have changed but alot has stayed the same. entertaining watch. 1+ Reply

this kind of stuff makes me embarssed to be involved in this type of scene. 3+ Replies

I posted this above without a heading so I doubt many people will read it, but this interview with Steve Martin of Agnostic Front was very interesting and helped relax my fears about racism...well he explicitly said they're anti-racist, but went on to explain a lot about Public Assistance and the skinhead crowd. 1+ Reply

Agnostic Front got a lot of crap for being racist but they werent at all. Funny how one line in one son g can get people so uppity. 1+ Reply

Phil should get a show again. I remember when he had Marilyn Manson on the show, when they first came out, that was great. I have it on video too. LOL!

these guys might sound dumb but ill take this over the glam-rock wannabe, pussy chasing bands that try to pass for "the scene" these days. 3+ Replies

Great clip. Stuff like that reminds me why "punk" is so hard to define. The audience will always be diverse, for better or worse.
