Stooges, Thermals, Specials, Sublime, Pixies highlights MLB 2K7 soundtrack

Gamespot is reporting on the heavily punk/indie/metal focused soundtrack for MLB 2007, the upcoming baseball game from 2K Sports.

The sports franchise has always had an eclectic soundtrack, with the 2K6 version of the game featuring music from Yo La Tengo, Pavement, and Pretty Girls Make Graves.

For this outing, the company is stretching beyond the Matador catalog, enlisting everyone from Death From Above 1979, Les Savy Fav, the Jealous Sound and the Thermals to Nirvana, the Specials,the Pixies and the Stooges. Even a Nerf Herder song (and not "Van Halen") makes an appearance.

Let it die and pick another vague and undefined genre to haphazardly label everything as. "Indie" is dead, "alternative" is dead.

Oh, shut up. "Indie" and "alternative" aren't even genres. They're discriptions. As in "independent of major support and promotion." Or "alternative to popular tastes."
So if by "jumped the shark" you mean that the kinds of music is now the main stream... well then no fucking shit Sherlock. You're about 15 years too late on your assesment of the music industry and the tastes of the general public. Besides, video games have been using "alternative" music on thier soundtracks for almost 10 years now. If I was you I'd be less concerned with who labels what, what and what gets played where and concentrate more on what sounds good. You'll find life a lot more enjoyable.

MLB 2k6 sucked ass (2K Sports will be the first to admit this!), MLB 06: The Show was pretty cool. I was so bummed that MLB abandoned EA, but it worked out pretty well. However, MLB 2K7 looks like it will be awesome!

No, because the Sonic games on Dreamcast were pretty weak too. It peaked at Sonic and Knuckes, if you ask me. That's my favorite game ever, and I've been playing it constatly for thirteen years now.

Wow. I'm really surprised to see the Nerf Herder love here. I always figured them as an easy target for talking shit. Saw them in a small room in Jersey with Ultimate Fakebook. Such a fun show. Parry was so drunk he forgot the words half the time and just sung about disco fries.
