In a move that is likely to demonstrate how you can be both right and very wrong at the same time, recording industry trade organization, RIAA has targeted a new lawsuit at John Paladuk, a paralyzed stroke victim who was living in Florida at the time of the alleged copyright infringement.
The lawsuit is being held in Michigan despite the fact that the accused is immobile and lives in Florida. The alledged infringement happened in Michigan, according to the RIAA. The move is the latest in a series of highly unsympathetic lawsuits launched by the RIAA, who previously launched suit against the children of a dead defendant. Unfortunately, this lawsuit, like many others, is more likely to unite people against the RIAA rather than provoke the very necessary discussion about the effects of file sharing. Earlier this month, the group launched a automated settlement system and even mainstream entertainment has begun to criticize their methods. Games and Technology (67 comments)

You know, all that stuff I posted on the tom morello/anti-flag thread defending bands who sign to major labels? I take it back. 3+ Replies

This is really no more ridiculous than anything else the RIAA has done. Oh, he's had a stroke, I'm sure the RIAA is supposed to check the health records of everyone person they sue. It's not like the guy's name was listed under "Joe Stroke" or anything. 2+ Replies

The original story also indicated the man worked for a railroad for something like 36 years. Meaning he is probably close to 60 years old, or more.

Does this RIAA bullshit apply for people in Canada as well or is this just the U.S. I'd like to have more info on what kind of "sharing" or how much sharing becomes a risk to get sued as well. 4+ Replies

Who do you got in the Final Four? I was thinking Florida, Kansas, Memphis and Texas. I got a feeling Durant is going to carry Texas through the tournament and the South isn't a hard region, so Memphis should be able to get by OSU in the elite 8, if they are playing good. 13+ Replies

If we show any sympathy at all then the terrorists will win!

this may sound stupid but is their some sort of membership into the RIAA? My point is, if there is a membership, how many punk bands would be members? So if you download exclusively non-RIAA member's music how can they sue you if they have no legal basis to bring the claim. 4+ Replies

So he's paralyzed and lives in Florida but the infringement took place in Michigan?? 2+ Replies

Filesharing does not negatively affect the music industry. The music industry refusing to think creatively to adapt to a changing sales environment and better-educated consumers negatively affects the music industry. 1+ Reply

so? i'm sure there is a good reason why the RIAA is pandering to the 'violent sociopath' demographic. people who beat up pregnant women in wheelchairs don't download music

I just hope nothing bad happens to me, because apparently that's when the RIAA will strike.
